Well, a few months back my dad and I saw this 1972 F-100 with a 360 at a used car lot and the window sticker said $2,100. After a few days of "sleeping on it" we conned the dealer down to $1,600. It only had 1 dent on the left side of the bed. When we bought it it had no lights, grills, or bumpers installed. After a couple of weeks we found a '69 grill, headlights and taillights. Then it looked like this. [IMG]

Then we got a front bumper and door handles from NPD.

we plan to fill in the holes for the side trim too. It runs and drives great but it needs to warm up or else the old big block sputters. The only engine issue other than that is a small leak in the exhaust manifold. Next thing that it will get is a rear roll pan. After that all we need is a trailer hitch and a trailer and then the maverick will look right at home being towed behind it.

I love "bumpsides" ... if I were to get a pickup, this bodystyle would be my first choice. Nice buy. :thumbs2:

In 1980, the shop truck for the Goodyear store that I worked at had a short bed Ranger in this bodystyle and I loved driving it. It was set up on 28.50x15 knobby tires (if memory serves correct) all the way around and was at stock ride height. Being short and up in the air a bit (because of the tires), it had a bunch of "attitude"... it just looked tough.

I believe Dyno Don's Cammer Maverick used a 69' F-250 or F-350 racers wedge. But the one vehicle that would look the coolest towing one of our cars would be one of those mavchero's I see when I look through the photo gallery here.

Anything built before '79 is something for me to look at. "You can't beat the classics." is a true phrase. BTW, was that a Ranger or a Camper Special? The black one was originally a Ranger.

Nice looking truck! My Dad has a '68 short bed Ranger that he bought in '72/'73.
It originally came with the same 360 setup with 3 spd manual. It's a 390 now with a 4 spd.

If you have never towed with one of these, you'll find that the drum brakes can be a bit squirrely under a trailered load. That would be a good place to upgrade.

Good luck. Checkout LMC for more parts if needed.

You can use the disk brakes off a later model truck but you gotta swap the I beams as well .

I was just going to say that. Very easy swap, swap the entire I beams and spindles, and you have a dis brake front end!

not sure about much info on it since i had it for such a short period of time, but it had the custom cab symbols on it and it had a Mid-year 302 option for 1969. i was gonna pull the 302 out for the mav but instead i sold it so i could afford drivers ed. its pretty weird being only 15 and i pass by an f100 and think "I use to have a truck just like that":rolleyes::rolleyes:

My first truck was 71 F250 Sport Custom it had factory disc brakes.

Want to buy a set of headers for your FE powered truck?
