Today when I tried to put my car into park, it wouldn't shift. I figured that maybe the shifter was messing up, so I took the cover off to check it out. Turns out the cable won't move forward or back. I can't shift it at all, and it's stuck in first gear. I have no idea what to think about it ... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Did you take the cable loose from the trans lever and then try shifting it manually with the lever? If the cable is not at fault and the selector lever will not move you will have to take the pan off and check the detent spring and roller and also the other piece of linkage that is attached to the manual lever and parking pawl etc. Fairly easy to fix without dropping the whole transmission if they are at fault. Something will not allow the selector lever to push the manual control valve in the valve body, back and forth. While the cable end is detached, see if the shifter will move it freely. Those cables can become broken or frayed inside the protective housings and cause a bind. Slow process of elimination should find the problem.
