Ive put the 302 with C-4 tranny and bell housing in the Mav that had the I-6 auto on the column...I want to keep the auto on the column but apparently there is some way the Transmission linkage hooks up that I cant figure out...the linkage arm that bolts to the frame is too long and its hitting the engine block..if i cut that arm and shorten it still leaves me with nothing to place the other end in... the bracket that came off the I-6 bell housing wont work either...interestingly the arm lines directly up with a threaded hole in the block...any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx Rick

i don't know if this will help. i used the linkage from the 302. there is a stud that screws into the corner of the block (302). it was kind of tricky to get the rods going in the right directions. maybe one is fliped over. it should work. i need a new rubber gromet for the stud...frank...:bananaman L.T.N.G.

That must be my problem Frank, I dont have the linkage from the 302...it was a floor shifter so there was no column linkage...if I had the stud that screws in the block I could cut the linkage arm and shorten it and make it fit. Findin a junk yard around here with a Maverick in it is gonna be tough...anyone know of any other Fords with the same linkage setup?
The stud your talking about Frank...is it a bolt with some type of bushing in the end of it the linkage rod end slips in?

I had the same problem I pulled a I6 and installed a 302 the only way I found to get it to work was to buy a new linkage set up from Lokar. Which I didn't do. I just went to the junk yard and got a floor shifter out of a 79 or so mustang and cut a hole in my floor.

I have the column linkage for a automatic V8 car, and I will check to make sure I still have everything. If you want it, drop me an email at cricket3@pacbell.net or pm me. Since the tranny was a floor shift, you will need to flip the selector lever on the tranny 180 degrees so the column linkage, when shifted, will move it the correct way. Floor shifts push the lever forward into gear while the column shift pushes it back into gear. I have done this swap, and it's not too hard. Many others here have done this as well. Ask lots of questions, and if you use the search feature for floor shift swaps or something like that, and you will find more detailed info about what I am talking about. Here is a very rough pic I drew of the differences between the two linkage types. Hope this helps you out some.

If you can go floor shift, I would recommend it. Many more header options that way.

Well the headers are on...looks like the linkage will go right on..when I get it...Hooker Competition...actually went in much easier than I figured they would.
Corbin..did you get my email message?
I got another problem now...we put fire to it this afternoon and she cranked right up soon as the gas hit the carb...idled great for 20 seconds then shut down...now it sounds like its tryin to start and wants to then it floods out.
The symptom sounds like a stuck float in the carb...any ideas guys...if it is a stuck float,,how do you get it loose?
    Thx Rick.
