    Hi,

I have 72 Maverick automatic. It will not shift gears under normal driving, but if I go fast from a stop it seems to shift fine. Fluid leval is full checked running and warm. any ideas?

    Thanks

    update:

car shifts at 30mph and 50 don't now what rpm's are but the engine is real high rpm. Fluid clean not burnt. Needs to shift lower problem started after sitting for a month or so.

    Trans Trouble

Check all your vacumm lines and especially the one to the modulator. Could be the modulator itself. Have you chgd. the fluid and filter lately? Plugged filter is another culprit. Several other items could be at fault but check these out first.

Just thought about my 73 that had that happen too. 250 6cyl, there was a small spring underneath that kept the kickdown lever on the trans pulled foward until the rod from the carb is activated. Mine was broken and caused the same problem, it is small and goes from the lever to the frame on the drivers side. Also check the linkage from the carb to the trans for binding etc.

    problem fixed (i think)

We added some of that trans restore stuff. Within a few hours of driving it just started to work. I hope it stays that way. Thanks again for the help.
