Did the 1971 Comet GT come with a trunk mat, either standard or as an option, and if so, what type. I see that Auto Krafters sell several different styles.

Factory correct would be a speckled vinyl mat. Cars with the Luxury Decor Option had a cloth/carpet like material.

NO Maverick/Comet ever came with a plaid trunk mat from the factory.

I bought a new 71 Comet GT and I'm trying to remember if it had a mat or not. That's been a long time ago but I can't remember one. I might have got ripped off.

I went with the heavy vinyl mat because it lays down better and won't wad up and slide around like the picnic table cloth style. I took this pic soon after installing, edges did lay down flat after it warms up, Melvin's Classic Ford Parts (parts123.com)
