They are different. THe 4 door trunk sits flatter, is shorter and the trailing edge is well rounded.

Good point. I assumed he was talking about the trunk lid. Guess I should have asked. I just finished cutting out a 2 door trunk floor with all the rails for Dale's 4 door.

yeah i was meaning the trunk lid.... i figured i'd try it anyway to see if i could somehow make it work, but i dont think that is going to happen :D:D if i could figure out a way to put that kind of lip on my 4door trunk lid i think it would look pretty cool actually.

If you have acess to a mig welder and are good at body work, you could probably graft the back lip of a standard trunk to the 4 dr one. Just bolt on the fender extensions from the 2 dr and use them as a guide to see where to cut and weld. This would be a neat thing to do. Anybody in the Annapolis area want to give it a try? I'd like to give it a whirl.

All he should need are the corresponding rear quarter extensions for the year (or style) trunklid he is using. I doubt there would be any cutting or welding involved. The body is the same from '70-'77 and the extensions bolt on. The bumpers might not work well with the extensions though...

when i tried to fit the trunk onto my car last weekend... *73 grabber trunk lid * *74 four door is my car*
i noticed a few things... at the "back of the trunk" where it latches down the widths are identical.. however up near the window line for the rear window the grabber trunk was approx 1.5" to 2" narrower.... not to sure, cuz i was just doing a quick mess around with it... i then thought that maybe if i could somehow get the grabber lip onto my 4 door trunk lid that would be nice, but i would also need to try the 1/4panel end caps. so i grabbed those from in the shop really quick. they where to "short" as in from bumper to top of the trunk lid. almost like the 4 door has a deeper trunk. i started to imagine it and i can see how the 4 door would have a deeper trunk to go along with the "look" whereas a 2 door can get away with a shorter trunk. or maybe i'm wrong and it would work just with a pre '73 bumper, since my 74 has the big rear bumper..
    worth the try anyway :D

and maybe if i was in the annapolis area i would have no problem letting you tear into my car... as long as i got to help and learn about it :D:D

i even started to think about it... a nice tucked up 4 door maverick wouldn't look to terribly bad with a funny car style wing on it... and of course the parachute.... and a 557stroker ... maybe turboed.....

    oops :D

The trunk is not "deeper". The later model rear quarter extensions are longer to blend with the large rear bumpers that hang down lower than the earlier rear bumpers...

They looked fine in 72.. ;) Actually, I think it is easier to graft the top of the early endcaps to the bottoms of the late endcaps than to do the bumper swap, but both are feasable depending on which look you want.
