Okay, I was reading a book I have called "Mid-Size Fords/Mercs" by Robert C. Ackerson, and for 1970 it shows a Ford brochure with all the profile views of all the trim levels and some specifications bellow those there are power teams, and at the bottom you see 429 cu. in. 4V Boss (Avail. only on Cobra SportsRoof) with a 4-speed toploader trans. It also mentions the boss '29 above the power teams and talks of it's performance specs. Also under engine features it mentions hydraulic valve lifters (mechanical on Boss 429) This makes me wonder was there ever a Boss 429 Torino? I will have to scan the page later on.
Interestingly enough the newest Muscle Car Review features an interview with Schartman and he mentions the Boss429 Cougar and a photo is included...didn't perform well in the Cougrs he says....no photos of the Mav either...
I have some Factory Mercury literature that says a Boss 429 available in a 70 Cyclone Spoiler. I too have seen that Cyclone Super Spoiler. A few guys I know argue as to its reality. I really dont know, but it is cool for sure. Dan
The Boss 429 Torinos and Cyclone were never sold to the public new. They were prototypes, and if they are privately owned now, they were obtained through the 'back door' of FoMoCo years after they were built. I agree it is too bad that they didn't build these cars. 70-71 were a terrible time for performance. The cars would have gotten better than we ever could imagine if the insurance industry and government hadn't started sticking their nose into musclecar technology.
