v6 to v8 swap on a 72 mercury comet

    well went to fire it up for the first time today. turns over, gets fuel, and wont start. when it had the v6 in it the distribitor had 3 wires hooked to a little box on the fender well. should i change this to a Duraspark ignition?never took distributor on this motor was in my 79 mustang ran sweet when i took it out. the wiring in the comet for the alternator and starter are alll the same hooked right up. now the distributor wiring i had in the mustang had the duraspark ignition on it. the comet had that little box thing on the inner fender. any help would be greatly appreciated

    That little box thing is a GM HEI module, no idea what distributor they'll operate with... I'd probably go with a Duraspark but it's going to require some rewiring... Should be plenty info around for converting...

    You can use it. Just have to find the right wiring diagram.

    I would not cut the distributor wires. If you have a old dead dura spark box cut that part off and make a harness. It also looks like the shock tower is being used as a heat sink. Most people just get a plate of aluminum for proper cooling. It may get hotter running a v8 now than a v6/i6.
