Drag racing is addictive! I posted a message a few weeks ago about going to the track for the first time. Since then it has rained or been really windy and last wednesday was the first time it seemed okay to go. I ran an 18.0 flat 1/4 mile, my car is pretty stock and needs an engine rebuild bad but I was pretty happy. It got a little windier and a lot moister so we only ran a few more times but I was consistent. I think with the right weather conditions and a new engine I'll fly. Thanks for all of your help. Jeri
Drag Racing is more addictive than CRACK, and a lot safer! Glad you had fun (how could one NOT have fun, right?). Rick
jerilyn, congratulations and welcome to the world of drag racing. what track did you race at and what were your reaction times? many track champions have slower cars. consistency and good reaction times are most important. have fun.
Way to go Jerilyn! How close are you to LACR? Ya know there is an excellant 1/8 mile track in Irwindale
Drag racing can be quite addictive. Most people agree that it costs about a grand or so a second. So if you want to go 13's, then that might cost you 5g's. I took my stang out a few times, and got so hyped up that I just wanted to fix it up like you wouldn't believe. I started seeing people with real fixed up cars, and I got fusterated cause I just don't have that kind of $$$ right now.
Reaction times To answer someones question, my reaction times were anywhere from .720 to .804. Also to answer someone elses question I live about 25 minutes away from LACR. It's expensive to drag. Fifteen bucks plus a gas fill up on the way home, but it is so fun. Thanks guys!
Reaction Times Just thought I would let you know about a great drag racing site that has among other things, a practice tree and some good articles on how to race etc. www.Prestage.com Here in Arkansas at our track, there is a fellow who drives a wheel standing Corvette in Super Pro class(5.90's in 1/8mi). He also has a 63 Chevy II, 6cyl auto, that is bone stock on street tires(runs it in street class) has won many bracket races with it because of his excellant reaction times and the consistency of the et's( runs about the same as your car). As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect, keep the faith and hope you stay with it if you like doing it. Good luck always.
Sounds fun, I might have to try it.... I think once I get my Maverick done (driving on the road anyway) I should take it down to the track and see what it will do. I don't know if any of you have heard of it, but about an hour away from where I live there is a place called Sears Point. It is pretty cool. They are doing major renovations on it now, and it will be tons better that it used to be. Anyway, they have this one thing where you can race against cops in their cars, and I know quite a few people who have beat them. Anyway, that is pretty cool. Another thing is they have Wednesday Night Drags, where you can go down and race other normal people. There is a thing where anyone can race. You go out and race mini-vans, suvs, trucks, or anything that runs. It is pretty humerous to watch a mini-van doing the quarter mile. -Corbin
