Just to keep everyone posted. As you may know, Reno is going to be the site of the '06 (1st Annual) meet. In order to accommodate everyone's interests (shows, drag racing, etc.) it may be a good idea to hold this meet in conjuction with the annual Hot August Nights. Someone mentioned this earlier and after looking at the events and venues this could be perfect. Don't be put off by the name...average temps for July-August are 90 during the day and 50 at night...not too bad really...that's even cooler than out here.

If you want to check out the official website go here:

    http://www.hotaugustnights.net/

I hope to cement this within a week or two and move on because hotels are going to be an issue...even a year out.

    Mike

HAN is not a definite so don't get spooked! It's just an idea. We're still looking at a small show.

Also, I should have a website up in about 2-3 weeks dedicated to the meet where you can get up to date info and post questions/suggestions. I'm in the middle of a move right now otherwise I'd do it sooner.

If you have any questions or suggestions in the mean time feel free to PM me or Maverikrick and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

YES, this is gonna happen! Even if it's just me and Rick sitting out there.

I would think that rooms would be at a premium with such a huge event...as well as the track would probably be megapacked. Not sure hooking up to about the biggest show in America(car event wise) would be a great idea. Traffic(especially to us small town people) would be not good either I would guess.

I agree with Grabber71. Reno (is it still "the biggest little city?") will be jammed with vehicles. I don't know if we'd be able to get good hotel rooms. Also HAN is the first week in August. I'd like to go a little later in the month. :yup:

I spoke to Rick today and I think we've ruled out the HAN show. Dates are still up in the air but he's putting together a list of possibilities and will send them out to everyone. If you're not on Maverikrick's mailing list then send him a PM...you might also want to specify a "best" time for you. We'll try to pick the best possible dates.

I have to agree with the above. Don't have the event with Hot August Nights. I don't even want to go near Reno with 5,000 cars there. I think June or July, time frame would be alot better....

    Yo

Guess I'll chime in. Yeah, HAN looks like a real zoo, and my vote is avoid zoos. Track is booked only 4 weekends June/July. Reno Mustang club has a show Mid June, they've been doing it for 13 years, in a small casino lot. I'll be calling them Monday. If we could get them to let us join it would take a lot of the pain out of a show day. KISS. And then I'm thinking we could get them to join us for a T&T track day. Top Gun would schedule one for us and we would just have to pay regular entrance fees even though it would just be us and stangs. Hope no one is anti Mustang to the point of that being a problem, but I know a bunch of us are Stang and Cougar owners also. If nothing else I'm sure they can give us lots of good advice. Mike and I are both looking to keep this as simple as possible, not big show guys, so if someone wants to go all out on show organization, now would be the time to step up. (I'd be happy just hanging out in a parking lot and yakking all day.) I'm waiting until I make some more calls to email everyone, want to talk to reno mustangs, and some hotels, and the track again. It would help me if anyone that is only talking to me through PM would send me an email, and I can just set up a group and send to everyone at once. Special events in Reno are pretty limited, the two big events are HAN and the Rodeo, which is mid June also. Anyone up for mavericks in the big Rodeo Parade? Who has a set of steer horns to lend me? The air races would be cool but are in mid September.
I think a run to Tahoe should definitely be included, maybe a poker run? Up from Carson City, around one side of the lake and down through Truckee is gorgeous and not that long.
Virginia City is practically on the way to the track also, so maybe an after track trip there? Looks like a good shopping destination too.
Mid June is really pretty in that area, still spring, everything lush green and water running everywhere. And getting back to my anti heat theme, The daytime temps should be perfect.(nice for the track too)
Also time for a Reno point person. Any volunteers?

    Date is open.

Looks like I'm setting the date mid-June. I'm not, that's just the way the research points, and tying into the stang show would sure make it EASY. (and yeah, I do think it's the right time) We could still swing the track day into any month. There are always casino events happening every weekend, but not really any major ones other than HAN, Rodeo, and Air Races. When I email I'll include event calendar links. And then we'll probably have another vote on date. We're going to have to get cracking though because June is only 9 months away!! Get those repair plans fine tuned. I ordered my cam today, whoohoo!

Well, when life gives you lemonade.....

...maybe you just have to say thank you and drink it down with a big grin. I talked to one member of Reno Mustangs, husband of one of the officers of the club, she drives a 351 stang, he a 427 Cobra. Sound like real nice folks all the way around, still have to talk to a couple more. But, sounds like they were already thinking about looking for another group or two to join their show, and it looks like we would be welcomed with open arms. Could end up; Us, Them, and the Antique Ford Club in Reno, probably even would take some input, within a week or two, on date. Would probably boil down to Rodeo week or not or track open or not, but June would be a given. They already have a group deal with the Holiday Inn on the north side of town, about a mile from the strip, around $35 a night usually, which is where their show is. And looking at hotels, that's a ganga in June. I also talked to Fitzgerald's casino, downtown, right on the corner on Virginia St. (the Reno strip) where the "Biggest Little City in the World" arch is. Decent reviews for reasonable price, they do group rates too, probably in the 40 something range, still waiting to hear from them. The parking garage is patrolled every half hour.
I was so jazzed I couldn't wait to set up an email, so here it is first. Limits the date but when the karma hits you in the face, you gotta go for it, IMBO.
    Whatcha think?

Awesome work Rick! I agree, if the folks in the mustang club would like to have us I think it's great karma. I'm sure once they find out how far some people are coming they'll be very gracious.

I wonder if there's any way to take photos at the arch? Definitely the most recognizable landmark around.

Craig, I don't have Rick's e-mail but mine is coyote10@comcast.net. Rick can you give Craig yours so he can mail us his ideas? Also Rick, let me know what else I can do. I can plan activities and call around.

    Again, great job!

I like the idea of the joint show with the Mustang guys. Like someone said in an earlier post, we can trade speed secrets and setups. I am down with any weekend but the last weekend in July and HAN weekend. HAN weekend can get out of control as I have seen int he past with riots. But that was a few years ago, hopefully it has gotten better. I also like the idea of the poker run around Lake Tahoe too. Just need to make sure we hit some gas stations on the trip :).

    You're covered blk70

The last weekend of July IS HAN, starts July 29th next year. Top Gun already has a T$T planned the 16th? of June, if that's Friday, so the weekend of the 9th, or the 16th, or maybe even the 23rd, is looking like best bets(ha). 16th we join everyone there, the other dates we have only Fords. Picture Homer thinking about donuts: Only Fords, ...yummm.
