I will start this with my 70 Torino. 1975..in IL. 16 yrs. old, the back way to White Pines Drive In Theatre. This is the location of the "Grand Detour" when during the Ice Age the Northern Glassier, changed course. Also the location of the Blacksmith shop of John Deere. Well to get to the drive in theatre I had to take a left off of Franklin Grove road over the lip of the gigantic trench that the Glassier dug, but there are 2 lips. The 1st one lauches the car so when the suspensiond bottoms out upon landing, you hit the second lip and it releases the stored energy like a ski jump. Mind you you cant see the giant gourge you will decend into, and the vast vally below. So the car will be airbourne following the downward slope of the gourge. MUUAAHH!

It is 1/4 mile frome the left turn off Franklin Grove Rd to the 1st lip, 70Mph is the optimum speed to hit the 1st lip to compress the suspension upon landing to hit the 2nd lip for maximun lift. It was the back way to the State Mental Institution where I worked under the CETA program. So I had alot of runs to perfect the technique.

So I had a date with a "Nice Girl" who I thought I was in love with and wanted to impress her with my skill, and we went to the White Pines Drive In Theatre, The Back way. I made a perfect run, perfect launch, perfect landing, the airtime down the slope was the best ever. We went to the show, everything was cool, I took her home and her sister told me later that she walked in the door, callapsed on the floor in tears and told the whole story. Her Parents banned her from ever getting into a car with me again. I guess this is the reason you never Marry your 1st love. At least my reason.

Umm, I cant type details here. It involved an adventurous well known girl,2 guys and a Maverick. Coupled with a country road and a very steep ditch lined with wet leaves and mud. It wasnt the car that fell into the ditch either. LOL. Only a select few know the whole story and its damn funny.:rofl2:

I am going to try to make this short ...

My best buddy had a 71 or so Mav ... 6 cylinder, minimalist car. He was always pulling pranks, especially while driving.

One day, he says, "OMG ... can't see the road ... sun's in my eyes"

I think ..."nice joke, Mark" and remain silent.

Next, we are sliding sideways at 50 mph on wet grass. The car has a bench seat, and I am being compressed between 220 lbs of Mark and the passenger door ... trying to shove him back in front of the pedals, while he is still attempting to steer with his left hand.... can't quite reach the pedals. Of course, neither of us are wearing seat belts ... indestructable teenagers.

I think ... "wow ... this is taking this gag just a bit too far buddy".

The car does a 180 and starts leaning ... I am sure we are now about to barrel-roll. The car slows dramatically and stops.

Grabbing my first opportunity to speak, I blurt out ... "REALLY F-ing FUNNY MARK! You're a real comedian ... " trailing off in to further expletives. That was when I realized he really did, in fact have a problem seeing, etc.

Turns out the car perched itself on a 5 foot high mound of dirt from where construction crew had dumped it! A few feet further and we likely would have rolled the car down the other side.

In getting back to the road, we got the car stuck on the curb and spent the next two hours trying to dislodge it.... good times....

My favorite high school days were spent cruising around in my 64 Galaxie 500xl and going to the drive-in or the beach parking lot at night to hang out with friends...

1973 w/ LDO and those bucket seats that bring back fond memories when I was about 19 years old back in '74
I guess it was the anatomy class held in the reclining LDO bucket seats.

I let two guys from school talk me into driving them and their dates around town one friday night back in high school. They all got drunk by the middle of the night.by midnight they all had started fighting and the guys decided date night was over.after I dropped the guys back at home I headed back toward the town the girls were from.the guys were so wasted they wouldn't even ride to see the girls home.I had known both girls a long time.they both loved the little hotrod maverick.turned out they were really gratefull for me taking them all the way back home at my expence.turned out they were VERY grateful.Best maverick memory EVER.
