Well, I broke down and got one of thoughts goofy shackle kits to even out the stance of my 71..

So now IM getting tired of the 4 lugs.. The car is a 200 w/3 on the tree, it actually looks to have an 8 inch rear, would it be easier to just change the axles and drums?

I have a parts Granada that I was going to take the stuff for my other mav, will the rear from that drop right in? It appears to have the 8.8 rear (has the rear cover not the removable pumpkin) is this rear end pretty much junk?

and lastly i have 2 mavericks both were/are 200 i6's, ones a stick and the other is an auto, the stick car has the 8 inch, the auto car has the smaller rear 7.5 i think (rear cover, non removable pumpkin)

Also I have 2 Granada's with 250 i6's, ones a stick and the other is an auto, the stick car has the 8 in, and the auto has the 8.8 I think (rear cover, non removable pumpkin) my question is, was this a common practice of ford then to have the 8inch in the stick cars?

from what i understand the 8 inch was the stronger of the bunch (well besides the 9 inch)

sorry about all the questions.. thanks in advance

I would think easiest way to get a 5 lug rear is scavenge one from another Mav/Comet.

ok the granada that has the bolt on rear cover is a 7.5.......so you will be better off using the 8" from the granada......the rear out of the granada will bolt right up under your mav......the difference is1/2" per side wider so the granada rear end is total 1" wider than the stock mav rear end but the spring pads are in the same location. I hope this helps:)

The 5 lug axles will NOT just slip right into the 4 lug housing. The
bearings are different sizes . I know this because I tried the same thing.:(

steve as far as the swap goes, it was REAL EASY! to make your life easy, if the u-bolts are a pain to unbolt, just sawzall them off and get new ones. a spring shop near me made me a set of 4 for 7.50 each. there HAS to be a yard near you that has a 5bolt for your car if you don't want to mess with the granada thing. if you find one locally, and have questions on the switching, stay in touch with todd. he did the switch on our 100 dollar mav. i just drank one of those cold Warsteiners and held the droplight! maybe wes can help you find a rear. klinger has a million of them but he is pretty far from you. keep us informed. good luck!

im sure i'll find one, i have a few yards up my sleeve, my parts 78 granada has the 7.5 rear in it i may not wast my time with it, but my 77 granada with the good 8 in is my driver im not taking parts off of it.

like you said its just easier to get new u bolts. for the price its the best way to go!!
