Hey guys, Well I found a Maverick in a field and the key is in the dash so it must be a 69.5 right? I can't get ahold of the lady that owns the car. But if I do manage to get the car, I have a deal with the junkyard that he picks up the car and I take what I want and he can have the rest (and he doesn't crush the old stuff). Is there anything I should save off this car that is specific to the year? Its a 6cyl auto on the column. It has been hit in the front right, and the car is full of bondo and rust. Not too much appears to be good on it, but there is some stuff that I want. Let me know Adam
I belive your correct,i think the key is in the dash on 69.5 modles also check the rear it should have a 7.5 in. you can tell by the rear cover if it has a cover then its a 7.5 if not and the third member drops out the front its a 8in.I think im right but others im sure will shed more light on this than i can.
You are right it is based on the location of the ignition switch it is a 69.5. I have seen some guys looking for the steering column without the ignition switch on the column, and of course the tray with the ignition switch itself. I have a 69.5 myself that I am restoring, and I would interested in buying from you the steering wheel if it is in good shape ie. no cracks etc. The 'horn' chrome ring should be on the bottom half the steering wheel. Let me know how you make out!
The front brake hoses are sort of special to that year but they may be in poor condition. Possibaly the throttle cable may be unique to that year.
the gas tank is odd and the front parking light lens are clear. the door sill plates are wider..frank...
M.A.V. ; ain't it the truth! Wanting to put an AOD in the thing, but must think this one over. I know it will fit with massaging a bit, but I so far I have managed not to cut it up. Earl
Just an FYI on the clear parking lamps, they remained clear to the end of the 70' model when Ford changed them to amber for 71'. Question on the narrow trans tunnel: When did it get wider? With the 70' model or 71' and later?
Well I bought the car! I still would like to know how to get the stainless off around the door windows without damaging it. Maverick Guy the steering wheel has about 4 cracks in it. Its brown. It still doesnt look that bad...but it is cracked. I'm gonna pull anything that looks decent and let you guys know.
Thanks for follow up on the steering wheel. It doesn't sound to promising ie. the cracks. Thanks just the same though!
I have always wanted to change my 70 to a dash ignition but i dont know what would be involved elctrically. If anybody has any info on that it would be greatly appreciated. I may just get lucky, my dad is learning how to be an air conditioning-electricitytologist. Is it even possible?
i may be interested in the neutral saftey switch. mine was butcherd pretty bad and i hate haveing a seperate switch for my reverse lights.. dford4u@aol.com
