aright, so i got myself a carbed 302 from a '79 crown vicky. now... what the hell is all that crap on my engine?!?!

anyone know of a good place to find a few diagrams pointing out whats where?

this engine is kinda junked... no hoses actually go anywhere, and just about every engraved word is caked in grease. i mean, i dont mean to sound like an automotive ignoramous, but i just don't know what the heck is goin on here!!

any pics, descriptions, or links to pics or descriptions of this or similar engine would be helpful.

    thanx guys.

That year engine came with a bunch of useless hoses for smog equipment. Take everything off. All you need is the PCV hose, fuel hose, vacuum advance hose, and a couple vacuum lines for the tranny and interior vacuum solenoids.

My 77 was a California car with a VV carb. When I yanked all that crap off, the floor of my garage looked like a beaver damn.

I put a Holley 600 and Weiend manifold on it and my mileage went from 14 to 18, with a fair increase in power.

That emition control garbage is a joke. They dont understand that by using it you have to burn more gas to go from point A to point B, thus creating more pullution. I took if all off of my 302 car and it makes a pretty noticable difference in power.

Here's the 302 in my 77' Maverick. All the smog crap has been removed. We tried to keep it looking stock, so all the upgrades are internal. It was professionaly rebuilt 3 years ago. We had it bored 30 over, had the heads redone and port relieved, installed larger valves and put in a light cam. We never had it dynoed, but we are guessing the HP at about 300. More than enough get up and go for me.

And mine. Just when you think you've got plumbing problems...I just got through installing the external wastegate last week. I've got as many hoses and lines running across this thing as a "smog" engine!! It'll look much better when I get all of them changed over to braided, though. Dont know how long rubber ones will last, and besides...the last thing I need is a vacuum leak while under boost! Can't afford to melt down another motor:D

look at my wiring hell. this is what the engine compartment looked like when i bought the car from a tweaker. it had 3 old security systems in it, a second drycell battery, and a massive and messy stereo system. i'm in the process of ripping all this stuff out and re-wiring the whole car. all that really needs to be kept in relation to hoses would be the vaccuum advance if you have it, the pcv hose, the fuel line, and certain vaccuum hoses for auto tranny. all other hoses in my engine compartment have been cut, removed, or filled with more wires to go to the passenger compartment.

    Nice engine bays

I must say, the pics above really look good. I love to see nice clean bays like that, especially the white bay! Jean's own is really clean too, looks like showroom. ANd well, that turbo... jeez! Makes me want to try it too. Kudos to all of you, keep them looking good. You all are making me want to start back working on my project comet.:)
