Has a power steering fluid leak. Have no idea how these newer steering system operate. Seems almost like the fluid is coming from the rear of the engine compartment from a rubber boot - Where the tie rod should be. Would there be fluid there??

sounds like the rack and pinion is leaking.

The Rack shouldn't be that bad to change. Rebuilt one goes for about $160 exchange.

Shouldn't, but the location on this car is horrible. Can't get to it from above or below. Im runnin a can of Trans-X through right now. That's 'fixed' leaks a couple times before for me. If that doesn't work Ill go from there.

Besides, Ive got bigger fish to fry. (see the "Brake Issues" thread) Thanks Folks. :tiphat:

I know how you feel, I have a 2001 Windstar that I was just told today that it needs intake seals, 2 plugs are fouled with oil and it has been running rough and misfiring. Needs inner tie rods and a windshield to pass inspection. And early indications say the transmission is next. Not going to dump money into it. Gonna see what deals are out there tomorrow morning. Looking into the Cash for Clunkers deal as well.

Im working on a 97 Taurus right now with the 24v in it.
    Trust me its not fun.

If the heater core ever goes out... have to remove the upper intake manifold and possibly the rear valve cover to even get to it. How do I know this? I was running a compression check and checking the timing and notices how much of a PITA it would be if the heater core ever went out.

Removing heads or the timing chain will be a PITA also... the front big cover on the motor has to come off. Which involves removing all accessories, crank pulley and harmonic balancer... yuck.

Goodluck with your fix however, it doesn't look really that bad to do it, but not that fun either
