I've been trying to sell my Comet for almost two months and have had no real prospects. What the heck is the problem? It's a 1977 Comet with Sport Coupe(GT) Package. Rust free Texas car. Red w/ white vinyl top. Less than 74,000 miles. 250 six, auto. Rebuilt carb, New shocks, muffler, and tune up. Original Magnums and factory hood scoop. Runs like new. I've got about $3500 invested. I started out asking $4200 and have gone down to $3000 obo. Nothing. Then I even said I would consider any offer or trade and still nothing. This car is awesome, why won't it sell? What can I do, I'm at my wits end. PLEASE HELP!!!

Unfortunately, the price is higher than the market will bear.

The sad truth is that, in general, the maverick/comet is much less desirable than many of the other cars of the era. Add to that the relatively few people who are interested in these cars are spread so far apart (geographically speaking) that the costs associated with transporting the vehicle makes buying it much more cost prohibitive.

I am afraid that I am stuck with my car forever because no one would ever pay me close to what it's really worth. Most people can't justify spending that much for a Maverick.

    well...

Have you put your car in your states Autotrader? If not you really should, you can pick one up at your local 7-11 for a buck. The two main things that are pushing people away from your car are the big bumpers and the I-6. Anyhow selling stuff is all about advertising.

you might try e-bay. i've seen quite a few mavericks for sale there. watch and see what they go for and if you list yours you can put a reserve on it. good luck

I live in Austin and there are no smog regulations here, yet. I've tried several internet sites and the autotrader for advertising and still no luck. Thanks for the input.

Rudy hit the nail on the head, if someone is going to pay that much for a maverick, they likely want a 71-73 model with small bumpers and a 302. Unfortunalty if you have an old car now a-days, and it is not a collecter, such as a mustang or so, you wind up selling it for dirt cheap. Your car is pretty nice, maybe it is worth more to you then anyone else, just my .02 but I think you should keep it, and fix it/show it/modify it to your tastes.
