Will a 96 351w be a roller block with 100% certainty?

I have a 351w engine offered to me for 200 bux.
    It's in a 96 F250 and has a 12/96 (essentially 97 model year) build date.

I do not need another engine hanging around my shop, but if this thing is a garaunteed roller 351w, I don't see how I could pass it up.
It is still in the truck and is mine from fan to flexplate if I want.
It has a blown head gasket.

Doing a search for a cam and lifters for a 1996 351 Ford Truck on summitracing.com only brings up hydraulic cam and lifters.

I'd say you potentially have a good deal on your hands.

i just went to a site that remanufactures rebuilt engines. they had a 5.8l (351w) for 94-97. it had a roller cam. i'd say there is a good chance but i'm not 100%positive. :)

From what I have seen a roller block will have a F4TE part number.

The blocks for that year were roller cam blocks, but some trucks came with a flat tappet cam installed in the roller block.

Yeah, the original engine in my 90 F150 is a roller block, but that is a 302.
    I know 351s are a different story.
I feel pretty good about it.
I am going to get it.
I don't really care what cam it has, just so long as the block is a roller.
My guess is that by 12/96, that is all they were using.

The head gasket on the driver's side is blown, but I am going to rebuild the entire engine... someday.;)

    Thanks guys!

You have helped me get 'off the fence'... :D
I just needed some folks to feel pretty confident as I did.
