I've pretty much decided that I'm going to have my 99 Explorer XLT tinted. I called the best 2 shops in my area both said $200 for all the windows using top of the line 3M Window Tint, with a lifetime warranty. Question is what setup will look the best. FL law is 28% or higher Front Windows and 15% or higher Rear Windows. Here's some setups in the poll I made let me know which one you think I should go with. The shop will do darker tint which is illegal, but since it's illegal they will not warranty it.
I don't know how strict they are in FL, but I like really dark tint myself. I use 5% on all my windows here in OK (except windshield of course).
Thanks for all the replies thus far. I stopped in at the Tint shop today, the lady came out and looked at my Explorer, according to her she says my factory tint on the rear windows is 15-20%. So I decided atleast for now to just get the front windows done, I've got a time setup on Monday, she said it will take about an hour so I'll just sit and wait for it. Since they will only warranty the legal stuff I'll be going with the 28% which is the darkest FL law allows for the front windows.
I'd vote for keeping it legal but at the same time keeping them the same tint shade on a car. On extended cab trucks I like the back ones darker if its just extended cab and not 4 door. I've had way darker than legal here before, but I will go legal w/ my vehicles now. On a fullsize GMC I had... It had factory tinted windows, plus 2 layers of 5% on each side glass. The back glass was the same way but the factory tint was darker than the sides. The windshield had mirror tint on the while thing (illegal) and the factory eyebrow, a 5'' eyebrow and a 8'' eyebrow (due to me being light sensitive this helped a ton) It was VERY VERY dark. If you took a 100 watt light bulb and held it right up against the glass outside at dark, you could just barely see the filament. Anyways, I'd keep it the same shade on a 4 door car all the way around. Sorry for rambling
on classic cars, i like the windows tinted just enough to be darkened... which would mean legal. i personally think 25% all the way around looks great on our cars
