Could someone give me a run down on what parts I need to convert my '77 302 to a roller motor. I relize that I have to have the Roller Rocker Arms, Roller Camshaft, Roller Lifters, H-pieces, trey and hold down bolts. Any thing else?
IT MAY BE CHEAPER TO GET A LATE MODEL 302 IF THAT IS WHAT YOU MEAN BY ROLLER BUT HAVE ROLLER CAMES NOT ROCKERS. THE BEST ONE IN MY BOOK WOULD BE OUT OF A MUSTANG BACAUSE THE CROWN VICS AND THUNDER CHICKENS DONT HAVE THE POWER OR TURN AS HARD IN STOCK FORM.JUST MY 2 CENTS
Actually its very easy to convert an old block to roller. All you need is the spyder assy. Then drill and tap 2 holes in the lifter valley. If you buy the type lifters that are mechanically paired together, you dont need the spyder assy.
Also, I think Comp and Crane sell kits, with cam and lifters. The easiest thing to forget, and possibly the most important, if the distributor gear. The roller cams are steel and need a dist gear to match. They will chew up ypur existing gear in a heartbeat.
