factory auto car, jump it at the solenoid everything's peachy, hit the key, nothing happens.

I've been through it, and I'm thoroughly confused. Someone please give me a rundown on the Maverick/Comet iginition wiring and such...

So far I took what I thought to be the safety neutral switch at the base of the steering column, right next to the firewall, off, checked the connectors, two sliders, complete one circut the reverse lights come on, the other circut is complete in anything but park.
    ??

I think this is not the safety neutral... dunno.

So, where is the safety neutral? Any other thoughts?

If you don't care about being original...

That happened to mine, and I still don't know completely what's wrong. So, I found an "accesssory hot" wire, ran it to a pushbutton switch in my ashtray (where the cigarette lighter isn't,) then to the solenoid.

Pushbutton doesn't make it crank unless the key is in the "on" position. Bingo! Turnkey theft deterrence.

    Yours,
    Atzy.

my comet gt, thanks for the link and check your email.

Atzy1, I had considered that, but I'd rather have the working switch right now, daily driver.

btw, it is a column shifter

Go to Charlie Ping's site and call up the electrical drawings.
Look at location B4 for the starting motor relay. Follow lead 32 to the next page to location B7, still as lead 32 to the starting position of the ignition switch.
The drawings should give enough help to see what wiring is involved.

heh, I didn't realize Charlie had electrical info on his site...

turns out it wasn't the safety neutral. The box under the dash, a capacitor, a few other things and a relay on a PCB, one of the connectors had corroded and burned.

Ignition relay? Where can I find a new one? I pulled one from my other Comet, got my daily driver running, but...

    thanks guys

Isn't that the seat belt lockout? Do you also have what looks like a reset button next to your washer reservoir? I had a 74 that was jumpered there, I thought, to go around the seat belt lock.
