Look what I found on MSN! I tried to read the entire story, but forbes.com was not responding. Take a close look at the car, what kind is?
Maybe the folks at MSN should stick to news. They don't even know a great car when they see one. Earl
yeah like i really am going to support bill gates anymore than I have in the past after seeing this! hum guess i never going to buy anything from Microsoft or any other related products... the key word is buy.
The link http://forbes.com/2002/10/21/1021feat.html They sure do know alot bout cars..... What kind of Maverick are they using in the photo?
umm... Well my Maverick doesn't crash near as often as my Microsoft software. Now I don't feel bad for pirateing your software Billy, not that I did before.
They called the engine a "weak-kneed in-line six engines" but I always read and everybody I know calls them "work-horse-sixes". Well at least they got the years correct those stupid suckers!
Early days of unibody cars? Ford had been making unibodies for over 10 years when the Maverick came out. Weak-kneed sixes? Mine could run a 15 flat in the quarter when it was new. Prone to rust? what metal isnt when its subjected to the the enviroment and road salt for 100's of thousands of miles. I guess some congressman's speech writer wrote this.
Hmmm, I seem to remember the early mustangs called "rusttangs" I don't think the mav is the only car proned to rust. I take personal insult when they called the fox platform the worst. The LEGENDARY 5.0 mustang was built on this platform The 5.0 mustang is going down in history as the Hemi-cudas and the cobra-jet mustangs of the eighties and 90's. The author of this article has obviously written it from his personal opionion and not of fact, or even gathered mass opionion. While we can call the fox platform and the early maverick platform less than perfect--it is the very platform that legends have been made from.
Stefan....according to the photo credit...they got the picture off of ebay. It looks to be a foreign Maverick of some kind.
That is correct, the maverick is unibody--a frame-off restro is therefor inaccurate. all cars now adays are unibody except for the crown vic and some trucks. The original mustang and most of the muscle cars are all unibody.
They think the Mavericks were prone to rust?! I guess they didn't stop to look at the other car makes that were true rust buckets. I have never seen a Chevy Monsa or Vega that wasn't held together with spit and bailing wire. Does anyone remember the very first Honda Civics? Now there was a car that was just BORN to rust. I owned my fair share of Mustangs, some bad and some good, and all were absolute rust buckets. So why pick on just the Maverick? They must not have had anything better to do that day. As for the six cylinders lacking power, I beg to differ. The 250 in my 76' can spin it's wheels with the best of them It is by no means a dog in the get up and go department. Seems to me those clowns could have spent a little more time in the research department before pinning a bad rap on the Maverick. They had a lot more candidates to choice from.
