I did a search on this subject but could not find anything. Many of you here probably had a Maverick as your first car. Mine wasn't. However, it set in motion the direction of my interest in restoring old cars. My first car was a '58 Chevy Impala. I had just bought a '59 Chevy with bad cancer and went to a junk yard to find a better body for the drivetrain. I bought the body and pulled it to a friend's place. I had it repainted Nassau Blue, a '65 Corvette color, and installed buckets, a new interior, and chrome wheels. Then, I put in the 348 and had myself a car. It was fast! I drove it for about a year until I went away to college and sold it. Later, I bought a '65 Mustang which I used most of my college days. When I graduated, I special ordered a '72 Mustang Sprint. Since that time, I had owned nearly 50 classics, restoring many of them. Three years ago, I found another Mustang Sprint and had it shipped to Florida. A few months ago, I found a Maverick Sprint to go with it. It has created a whirlwind of purchases and now I own 2 Mavericks and 2 Comets. You never know how much that first car may influence your life. How has your first car influenced yours? What was it? Jim
My first car was a 57 Metropolitan. My Dad was a body and fender man and he fixed this up. It had a Ford Ranchero front bench seat.
Now you need a Pinto Sprint to round out the collection! My first car was a 1973 Chevy Vega. I loved that car & had several more of them through the years. There were plenty in the boneyard at the time, so parts were plentiful. I also had a "Spirit of America" Vega, which were along the same lines for Chevy as the Sprints were for Ford. They had Novas & Impalas with the "Spirit of America" color scheme also. For those who don't know, here's what they looked like:
My first car was a 67 Mustang fastback. Several colors and shades of primer and rust with a 302 and a 4 speed. I think it was originally green. My 1st was a 70 Maverick,, Bought for $120 from a salvage pool,,, Got it when I was 15. Spent the entire year making it what I wanted,, put an engine called the Cleveland conection in it,,.. Got my License in Oct @ 16,,,, Lost My License @17 with 66 points on it,,, made $35,000 that spring and summer Racing all of daddies little rich boys in the burbs, who got the new car for the 16th B-day,, and thought it was benieth them to get there hands dirty,, Had some serious fun in that car,, The best thing I ever did was put reclining bucket seats in that car,,, Made the drive-in with the G/f alot more enjoyable,,, When I turned 18 got the license back,, never got caught racing again,, well the car was seen,, well atleast my plates,, so A Judge suspended the cars registration for 3 years,,, Said that slow down the phantom driver,, I built 2 more cars Identical to the first,, well atleast in color scheme they all had Black magic Tatoo,d to the trunk lid,,, I only have 1 of the 3 now she is put away. But that cars reputation still gets brought up in conversation with alot of people,, Now that I am hanging out with all of you,, Instagaters,,,Lol I guess its time for her to come out after a 20 year napp,,,
Mine is my 1974 Mav got her last december, week before Chrismas for free! And i plan on making a Street BEAST!!
My first car was a 66' Mustang. It was a bare bones coupe with a 200 6 cylinder and an automatic tranny. I bought it in 1975 when I was sixteen and had just gotten my drivers license. For years I used to see the Mustang parked along a snow fence at a real estate company. I would see it through the school bus window, never thinking that one day I would own it. I had a blast with that Mustang. I tore up the back roads with it as fast as a 6 cylinder would go, which was not very fast. I learned how to take it apart and put it back together. It took me out to Texas and back to Pa again with hardly a complaint. My love of Fords was born with that Mustang. If I had gotten the original car I wanted, which was a 1968 Camero, I may never had become a future Maverick owner. I guess things do happen for a reason.
Mine was a 81 2dr Plymouth Reliant K car. I absolutly hated that car, it never ran right and you couldnt drive to the next town over without it tearing up on you.
Mine was a 4 door 1965 Ford Falcon that my dad bought new and was about to trade in for a 73 Pinto. He was going to get 140.00 on the trade in and offered it to me for the same price. I wasn't too fond of the car but it was all mine and it got me where I needed to go. I gave him a little bit of money every month until it was paid off. By doing that, he taught me how to pay things off when I was only 17 years old.
My first (legitimate)Car was a 48 plymouth club coupe.Got me through highscool.I just sold it last summer. If I could find a pic I would post it(sorry) It was bright red.Got it from my dad.(The Iwanna car thing)He bought it in 74 and I helped him resore it then.He drove it year round for two years then parked it.(needed rings)Then I got it in 84,dad helped me get it going(how cool is that)And the rest is fond memories.
My first was a 67 Mustang, 200 I6 with a C4, absolute dog. Tranny slipped all the time. Kept it six months and traded it for another 67 Mustang, this time, a 289 C4. The first one was a stripper, no power anything, not even in the motor. The second one was the one I'd love to have back, PS, PB, AC. Brown metallic with a black vinyl top. I put a set of Torq Thrusts on it with withe letter tires, and dual exhaust. Ran like a scalded dog. Sold it after I bought a 68 Impala [ I wanted the bigger back seat for er, lets just say activites, that were hard to do in the smaller Mustang seats.]
1976 Ford Maverick, which i got for free in exchange for cutting my neighbours grass. The car lasted less than 3 years (had serious rust) and I cut my neighbors grass or many years after until he passed away.
1976 Maverick, 302, 4 speed, everything stock. I have big plans for my Mav. It's been a very reliable car, it's run great when raining and it takes me home safely.
