wow, that is indeed a pretty big difference. in a similar thread, somebody dug out the numbers from the kansas springs website - they weren't off by much: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=80688 bryant, can you explain the differences as you work in that field?
AH yes!, friend told me, back in the 70s; that he drove both air shocks up thru the sheet metal, on the rear of his maverick. That was bad.
Here is the tech article about the shocks .... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=50105 I will second that you want to use leaf springs to raise the back. Shackles are bad news ... can lead to the rear axle steering the car a bit ... not what you want. There is a tech article about using leaves from an Econoline Van (150 IIRC). I wanted to add that only raise it the minimum amount you need. The higher you go, the worse the handling.
could you add another leaf spring from a spare maverick? or do you need something from a different donor?
An old school trick is to use another main leaf from the same car, chop the eyes off of it, and bundle it in with the existing spring. This was done on cars that were meant to be sleepers, so that you could avoid obviously having traction bars, and is really meant to prevent wheel hop due to the front of the spring wrapping up due to torque. It will really increase the spring rate ... possibly hit or miss as far as too stiff or just right. I want to try the Econoline springs, but that will be the same deal ... it may take a couple of tries to get it right, but there will be more options as far as combining leaves.
The reason I ask that is because there's ONE old maverick in a junkyard here, so that would be perfect for getting another set of springs.
I added a second leaf from a 77 f100 and it raised my car almost 2" fwiw added it below the 2nd maverick leaf
That worked well for me. The eyes were removed from the somewhat thinner main leafs out of a '70(?) 6 cyl and added to my '72 V8 springs.
im not sure what your asking me to explain. are we talking about the Granada springs or just how springs work or what?
do you know why the numbers on the kansas springs site are that close, but the results are that different - judging from the pictures?
i can only guess. i would think that the springs from the granada that were put on the maverick were not the ones that list close to the maverick specs. chances are the granada springs were for the most heavy duty option package that was possible for the car. they may have even been re-arched for the increased lift. then put into the maverick.
but you would say that the 5leaf granada springs are worth a try? here's the two links again: Maverick Springs Granada Springs
just because they are really close in there dementions does not mean that the spring rate will be close. they a can control the spring rate by using different thickness of springs and have a different arch to them also. what are you trying to achieve with the rear springs on your car?
