Here are my new front disc brakes, they are half the weight of the stock disc brakes. This kit can be bought from Aerospace Components for $545.00 but is NOT a direct bolt on. The only modifications that need to be made to allow this kit to bolt on are as follows: The three bolt holes on the spindle (the bolts that hold on the dust shield) need to be re-drilled and tapped for the bigger bolts that come in the kit, and the spindle washer ( the little washer with the tooth on it) needs to be spaced out with a similar size washer. Did that make any sense?? But anyway, it works great once those minor modifications are taken care of! Here is what it looks like on the car. These are for a disc brake spindle, I'm not sure if they will work on a drum spindle.

It's hard to see it but if you look closely you'll notice the color flopping paint, it changes from purple to green to gold !!!

Nope, these are quite capable of street duty on a car that does not exceed 3000 lbs. If your car is heavier then 3000 lbs you will need to go with the bigger rotor that they offer. I'm sure these will stop my car on a dime, i've got the same setup on the rear!!

Not really John, I wanted to smooth and paint all the suspension stuff and i've been wanting to try this paint so I chose the suspension. I figured if I didnt' like it most people wont' see it since it's kinda hidden under the car. I do plan on re-painting the car one of these years but i'll probably go back with the original color with a little pearl thrown in!! The color changing paint is really cool though just a little on the expensive side!!

Those might be OK for street but not any constant heavy braking, such as auto-x or if you live on a big hill, etc. But I'm sure they'll work well for your car. Hell I'm sure they are better than the original drum brakes! They look good!

Charlie, you might be right.....if, you just threw them on they may not be the best for constant street driving.....but since I have there disc brake setup in the rear also, Aerospace said that this setup would be at home on a daily driven car in the mountains (which is where I live). Gotta remember, these are forged steel cross-drilled rotors with 4-piston calipers on all courners, they come with Hawk Poly-matrix pads. These brakes will outperform, outlast and just plain look better then any stock setup!! My car was disc/drum from the factory....

dude looks good! looks like your gonna get yours done before mine! i got a couple of questions for your tough.

those are maverick disk brake spinels right? and what size rotors are those? and what master are you using?

looks like your using the stock brake line. did you have to adapt anything.. cuz it looks like on mine i will have too! so i just ordered some new lines from russell to rigs some up. but let me know please what you did, if anything.

also you spoke of the washer on the spindel. my kit did come with a smaller one so you could put the dust cap on however the stock bolt that goes on after the washer is way too thick and there is no way you can put the pin in the spindel with out shaving the bolt. or redrilling the spindel to put the pin. did you have the same problem at all or did you just get a differant bolt?

also i would love to see how that caliper mounts.

yours looks good! love the polished caliper!

here a pic of what i have together so far.. all i have to say i gotta get this thing fitted soon so i can start on the rear.. i'll be sure to ask you about that too! you got wilwoods on the back right?

    thanks

Maverickman, the spindles are stock 74 Mav/Comet disc brake spindles. The rotors measure 10.25" and i'll be using a 1 1/8" bore master cylinder from Aerospace Components. I will not be running the stock brake line, i'll be running a stainless braided line with -3 fittings on the ends. I didn't have any problems with the spindle nut, it was the fact that the outside bearing didn't quite sit out far enough to tighten the nut down. I made a spacer out of a washer and spaced the stock washer out so the spindle nut would seat and preload the bearings. I'll get you a picture of how the caliper mounts...i'm also running the Aerospace kit in the rear....

Yeah the calipers are up to snuff, but the rotors are very small. This just means they might have a tendancy to overheat. Heat capacity is directly related to rotor mass, and a non-vented rotor can't dissipate heat as well either.

I don't think they are a bad choice just thinking out loud. :) More that I think about it, most aftermarket brake kits are probably overbuilt for road racing and folks just drive them on the street, so you probably made a good choice. :)
