What brand is everyone running for long tube headers? Is it worth paying the extra money for the ceramic coating? My car is a '71 with power steering, what does the power steering drop bracket go? I can't really see where it would go.. Has anyone got this a similar setup? I really want the long tube because they sound SO much better than short tube ones. My buddy has short tube on his V8 Ranger and they don't sound as good as they should in my opinion. Thanks!
Hooker 6901. The ps drop bracket lowers the ps ram to clear the headers. Bolts to the frame where the ps ram bracket is from the factory.
Hooker 6901's here too. I have the ceramic coatings and they have worn pretty good over the years. Course it's not a street car. Not sure of the benefits for a street car.
hooker 6901s ceramic coated also. cant complain. look great after 4 years. is your friends rangers a v8? does it have catalitic conveters on it still? if its a 6 cylinder or has cats then its not a fair comparison. i have heard plenty of shorty header cars that sounded great.
The ceramic coating will help the headers last alot longer from rust out, along with the other binifits of lowered underhood heat and improved exhaust scavaging. So the extra cost, in my opinion, would be worth it.
If you decide to go coated, give Jet Hot a call. They are a Hooker dealer, and sell them new with their Jet Hot coating. It has been about 5 years since I checked, so things may have changed, but last I checked Hooker only coats the outside of the headers, Jet Hot does in and out. Also, last I checked, Jet Hot Hookers were a bit cheaper than coated headers bought straight from Hooker. Just a thought.
So I was under my car changing the oil and tighting up some pan bolts. And in the proccess I discovered that one of my header down tubes was bent-in pretty bad and looks like someone punched a hole above the bend with a torch to relieve pressure. Its not a small crease its like it eather crunched against the p/s actuater arm (where the rubber boot is) or it was hammered in to make clearance. Is there anyway to findout what kind of headers these are so I don't buy the same ones when I replace them? Anyone else have this problem lol or is it just the jackas* that had the car before me?
