Just Tried RUST BULLET - Floorboards Just completed the repairs on the floorboards. This is the first time I have tried Rust Bullet, and so far I'm very pleased with the application process and look. Floorboards in general were very solid. Most rust in the pictures is just surface rust. There were 2 main holes, both about 4 inches long and an inch wide. One was by the drivers left foot and the other by the passengers right foot. Easy repair with fiberglass. 1st picture shows the floor as it was with the carpet and underlayment removed. 2nd is after wire wheel on the angle grinder. 3rd and 4th shows the finished floor. Looking at the finished pictures, those spots by the rear supports and wheel housing that look like rust, are really that tar sealer from the factory. All rust is now sealed and gone. As I said, this was the first time using Rust Bullet. Anybody else try this stuff and how has it held up?
I know someone else on here did their whole car with it. Just out of curiosity, how much did you buy and how much did that take?
here it is: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=6573&highlight=rust+bullet and http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=8013&highlight=rust+bullet
I used 1 quart of the automotive mix for the floor pans - 1/2 quart on each coat. Rust Bullet directions say to always do 2 coats, that is how it seals the metal. 2nd coats needs to be applied after the 1st is fully dried, but no later then 72 hours. Opened cans do not keep more then a few days. I was able to do the inside area of the rear wheel housing and front quarters too. I also bought one of their "6 pack" shooters. Little 1/4 pint cans that will be great for doing little jobs.
By the way.....I have circled the area that is different on the floorboards for bucket seats. 1970 floorboards did not have these "humps".
Rust Bullet: I don't know, never used it. After cleaning mine with a die grinder and steel wire wheel, we sandblasted the floorboards, repaired some pinholes-welded them up. Ground the welds down and used Rhino-Liner (truck bed liner) in the entire floorboards and trunk area. The trunk area I topcoated in splatter paint. Seth
First time I have heard of Rust Bullet.Who makes it and where do you get it? Is it as good as Rust Encapsulator by Eastwood or POR 15 ?
I used some Rust Bullet inside the fender area on both cars while I had the suspension off. I sure like the look of it, it goes on pretty easy and seems durable. We'll have to see how it stands up long term.
Absolutely agree that it goes on easy and seems durable. I really like the way it goes on. Tests would indicate better results then POR 15. We will see. One thing I found that is really cool (no pun intended) is that you can work with it down to about 35 degrees. That is great with me, seeing as we are getting into the 20's for temps now and the sub-zero nights will be very close behind! Anybody looking for this product, just do a search in your browser under RUST BULLET. I hate to direct anyone to one particular vendor...
hey Red Toy....you said you sand blasted the floor.....did you rent a unit..? had one? i was thinking of doing that as well....but i dont have a blaster....wished i was still in the AF...plenty of opportunity to use the drive on blasting booth... oh well... any help you can tell me about the sand blasting would be cool...thanks
Hmm...I've always used POR-15. In fact, I'm about to do the floor of my '73. Do you know HOW it's better than POR-15? Maybe I'll use Rust Bullet instead.
