You know what? The angle of the Maverick/Comet steering column is so perfect that a tilt column really isn't needed. Only exception would be if the driver is extremely fat and needs to raise it for more room...

whether or not the angle is"perfect" I think its a reasonable mod to change one out, for the cool factor if nothing else.

several of us on here have done it, do a search under tilt column.

I used a mid 80's mustang unit, thack used a late 70's t-bird, cant recall what mavmark ended up using. its not that hard to change them out(in my opinion)

Its funny because of all the cars I've owned with tilt wheel, I've never moved it from its straight on position.

Whether it is "needed" or not notwithstanding...
I used the same method as thack, I bought one from a '77 Tbird, cut the top of the column off and welded this onto the Mav column after cutting an equal amount off. This worked quite well. I felt it would have been a lot more work trying to get the T-bird column to mount in the Mav, since it is a different design. In doing research, I did discover that tilt columns were an option in Granadas and Monarchs, and since those cars were built on the same platform as the Mav, the column *should* be a direct swap...but I couldn't locate a tilt column from a Monarch or a Granada, so I went with the T-bird method...

Every new vehicle I have ever purchased had tilt steering ... I set it when leaving the car dealers parking lot and then never touched it again ...

You tiney-hiney guys and normal height guys can do that. Us vertically challenged and non-svelte guys love the tilt wheel. However, there is not one in any of my mavericks.

Jim, in your answer to your question...let's just say that with that graying beard you have, there is a Santa Clause in your future.:D

The only problem is that when they get a little age, they can collapse under the weight of your hand when getting in and out of the vehicle.
Maybe it's just me, but I have a habit of holding the wheel when getting in and out of my vehicles. My 91 F150's wheel always falls when I touch it getting in and out. Like the detent is worn to nothing.
