I think I learned a valuble lesson here . DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BUY! I am just a novice at body work ,so silly me I thought a brand new hood would arrive ready to paint . This hood is 1" too wide and has impefections almost everywhere you look. The edges are cracked in 2 places and the honey comb pattern in the hood scoops looks like H*ll .
I waited four months and paid in advance by money order . I e-mailed them to let them know that I had problems and to ask for advice as to the best way to fix them and they after 5 days have not bothered to respond (this is what really irritates me )
Who are these fine folks you ask ? www.showcars-bodyparts.com/maverick.html

I have almost never heard of a fiberglass hood for a classic car that came 'right'.

If you have a late model car for some reason, you have a 50/50 chance of getting a decent product. Any car before the 90s, and you get ill fitting crap that needs another $500 in the body shop to fit. I think the reason is that most of us guys with older cars just take it, while guys with new Stangs, Camaros, Vettes, etc... raise hell when the stuff doesn't go on nice. However, they pay through the nose too. Glass hoods for late cars cost 2-3 times as much.

I highly recommend anyone thinking about this, just pay a little more and get a carbon fiber hood. I don't mean to sound like a commercial for Maverickman's parts, but the truth is what it is.

    Good luck.
    Sorry you have issues.
The other company that makes fiber hoods for our cars gets the same kinds of comments too. Do a search for UP22 or "unlimited products" if you are interested.

    Holey cow!
The car in that ad doesn't even have a fiber hood!
That car, correct me if I am wrong Ray, was one of Rayzorsharp's Grabbers he lost to hurricane Katrina. Steel hood and all!

    What a misleading ad.
In my mind, if you are going to sell something like this, you should build one and show pics of it in "shipped" state, and maybe some of it on a finished car... Like they did, just not one of their hoods on one of their customer's cars, as it should be.

    Edit:
Ever the smarta$$ that I am... I emailed them and asked if the car pictured just had "their" fiber hood and spoiler, or if it had other fiber parts such as fenders too... Seeing as how they named the JPEG as "showcars bodyparts maverick grabber hood and spoiler"...

Several of us have had problems with them, their products, and their business ethics. If I remember correctly, they are located in Canada, so us Americans really cannot do much about getting screwed or scammed by them.

Maverick Man has been stating for years that if you buy his carbon graphite hoods, they will fit. The couple hundred you pay extra gets you no flaws, and saves you countless hours reshaping your fiberglass hood to fit your car. And a better material as well.

Thanks for all the support guys . I'm going to try to fix it up . I've got too much invested to start over . After some conversations with some friends I've decided to cut the hood to size with a cutoff wheel and seal the raw cut with fiberglass resin . I think I can use this process to repair the other imperfections because I've been told standard body filler will eventually fall out. I plan to cut the the inside of the hood scoops out . I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it open or blank it off.

The mesh used in the CF hoods is available at construction supply stores or home centers like Lowes or Home Depot.

I forgot where I got some a few years back to make a mesh grille for my Z28, but IIRC, it was Home Depot. If not, it was some place that would compete with them. You gotta look, but it can be found.

I inquired about them using my car a few years ago...No Response!!! As stated, they are in Canada, and there isn't much I can do about it. Wish I was rich...I'd see about doing something about it but what ya gonna do on your own? Their service sucks along with their ethics!

In the 30 years I`ve been messing with cars I have never heard ANYTHING positive about "Unlimited products" or "Showcars" Fiberglass parts .

I don`t have a Maverick Man Hood ,but if I were going to buy an aftermarket one I think his is THE only way to go.

Man, that stuff from Showcars is crap, they are known around here for selling crap, since they are not too far away from where I live. Always pays to check around before buying something from a company you don't know anything about.
