A funny thing happened this afternoon as I was getting the '73 Maverick ready ready for a cruise-in tonight.

A little background, if you please. I spent last Sunday afternoon flushing the coolant system. Thursday evening, I put in a new thermostat. Today, after searching and calling several parts stores, put new upper and lower radiator hoses on the car. I did a pressure test of the coolant system and absolutely had no leak downs anywhere. I put on new vacum hoses and timed the engine. It was running great. I kicked the accelerator to a quick 4500 rpm and heard a loud pop and saw steam coming from under the hood.

No, the engine didn't blow. Ever seen this before?

Oh. I know how to fix this. Just wanted to get your attention.

Holy blown water pump Batman!!!!!! Never seen one do that. Think they'll hit ya for a core charge? Oh well, a new pump, a little radiator stop leak, and you'll be on your way. :slap:

I have never seen anything like that happen, ever! That is some bad luck Terry. Guess it coulda been worse, you could have been 10 miles from home and driving. Best for stuff like that to happen at home.

Terry, I don't think I'd try to fix that one. I don't think the super glue will hold up ;) Maybe with a little duct tape...

Terry, I have seen that happen before. A buddy of mine with a `65 mustang street/strip car had a pump to come apart at about 6,500 RPM It took out the radiator, shoud,FAN,and also ripped a hole in the sheetmetal that is in front of the drivers side shock tower...the most awesome thing is, One of the blades from his stainless steel flex fan was sticking through the Hood! It looked like someone stabbed it though like a knife!

Lots of dollars in damages :(

A little radiator stop leak? I don't wnat to know your definition for a lot. I have two other pumps that I can use as cores.

Gee, I wonder what my next project is for this car.

Fortunately, my hood was raised. The most amazing thing I saw, was the hose clamp on the upper hose was cut off, but no damage to the hose. How'd that happen?

That radiator stop leak is overrated - a little duct tape and JB Weld will fix it right up!

It did take out the radiator. It is all cut up and dented in from the engine side.:smash:

Fortunately, I have a couple around. I'll probably have the best one checked out by a radiator shop.
