Is there something that can be done to stop the fuel from rushing out of the filler neck back on you during refilling?:yikes:

Your vent hose is more than likely plugged

I think you should just let me have your car  ...seriously is it something that has just happened or has it always been that way? I noticed that the pumps down your way seem rather fast..up here in the "GWN" our pumps take their time for the most part.

I know where you can get some clocks with my car on 'em. Besides, how would learn to drive slow? All I have is an itzy bitzy 6 banger.

any way, it happens on my Ranchero and Maverick. Lately at $3.00 a gallon, gas flows slower now. charactoristic of Fords of that era I've been told

I'll check that. I also cannot let go of the hose as the nozzel will not stay in the filler neck.

I have the same problem. I think its something they put in gas. I never had a problem before but I'd say in the last 5 years, it has become an issue. I just pump it much slower.

All of my Mavericks to date have done it. Recently while junkyarding, I found a filler neck in a '76 4 door that was designed totally diffrent inside. It has a small spring loaded door that is just slightly larger then the pump nozel, with a vent tube running up and out above the spring loaded door. Reminds me of how newer cars are made. I bought it and am going to try it on my '69 1/2 and see if it eliminates the problem.

There is nothing worse then being in a hurry to get somewhere and haveing to take all day to pump gas in the tank because it pukes back out if you put it in to fast...

I only get gas at stations on hills and park aimed nose down. Funny but works.

my 62 ranchero did the same thing. had to stand there and feed it slowly. we also had some ford trucks at work that were the same way. just another one of those ford things.:yup:

I have some of those too. When did they start that? '75 or so?

It's funny, at the Chevron on the corner I can usually give it full-on trigger action, but at Shell stations I can't even go half-way, I have to let it trickle into my gas tank.

That was put on all cars made after 1974 so the owner did not put leaded fuel in a car that was made to take unleaded fuel.

    Now I feel old.

    Thanks guys.

I'm not sure. This one is the first I've seen, but then again I don't know that I have ever paid much attention to the filler necks in the past. '75 is probabably a safe bet, since that is when they went to the unleaded fuel warnings and all that.

Same here. I can go to Phillips 66, Marathon, and places like that and never have a problem. But at BP's, Race Trac's, and Quick Trips it always spews back out. Heck, sometimes at BP, it spews back out no matter how slow I go. It seems to have something to do with how the pump nozel is made. The one's that don't spew back out seem to have longer nozels that go much further down in the filler neck.

This is definately a problem I would like to solve. It's really only a minor annoyance, but it gets old quick with day to day driving...

I have to turn the nozzle upside down to keep it from shutting off, and fdefinatley have to slow it way down to get it to keep from shooting out of there.

By the Way BOYCOTT CITGO, its owned and operated by Venezuela...
