are the side markers required by law or can they be removed and welded over? saw this vid with no side markers and it looks sweet. might have to put it on the list for before paint.,
Thats one cool looking maverick. (i know its only the back) I would guess that they are required but if you live in a small town, i cant see why you couldnt get away with it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_lighting#Sidemarker_lights Its a safe practice to keep the lights...no one would even notice they were gone if theyve hardly ever seen a maverick, and its dangerous IMO to drive without anyone being able to see you with exception to HL glare from the side. Plus if you do find a cop that pulls you over, he'll pull you over every single time he sees you, after a few tickets youll be considered a multiple offender, and each occurrence after that will result in harsher penalties, including suspension of license and possible jail time.
After seeing photos of Mavericks over in Brazil, i had thoughts of getting rid of mine completely. Since then, I picked up a set of the small round side marker lights found on late 60's Roadrunners. They're a lot smaller than the stock ones are. The only problem is that some of the Mopars used flat ones and some used ones that have a curve built into them to conform to the curved body panel. The set I have are the flat ones but I haven't gotten a chance to mount them yet.
kewl. I guess I'll leave them. It just looked so kewl. thnx for the info. Got a recommendation for side scoops? lol. that's for another thread.
Dont mean to deter you, just want to make sure you know what can happen if you do something thats not easily undone
No, Thank you! I've got this anything is possible mentality going on with this car. It is good to be reminded about the practical side of things before making the situation silly.
Yeah Im the same way, and I almost went as far as blending in the passenger side door with the body and make it non functional and have a wraparound dash inside, but the idea was quickly dismantled when I found out that state law requires you to have an opening to the interior on both sides
awwwww... that sounds pretty awesome actually. hmmm... lol. I got pulled in Va once because the muffler was too loud on the beamer we were in. They told us that you couldn't have anything on the car that wasn't stock? I just don't like driving in va lol.
Cop being a jerk, you can have any muffler you want as long as it doesnt exceed 95db. Depending on where youre at I guess...I ran my Mav for a while without a muffler and that thing was LOUD, passed cops and state troopers and never got pulled over...also have a 5" hood scoop, state law cannot exceed 3", and never got pulled over Some cops are trying to cut down on the street racing thing, like in the Newport News and Richmond areas, anything unusual will cause you to get pulled over so they can try to find something wrong, but its not illegal to modify your car as long as you dont overdo it
I see it all now. The only reason you installed a blower, roll cage, rear wing, great paint and nice wheels were to take the focus off of not having the side markers. Good thinking - it worked
Get in an accident, and see if the lawyer for the person in the other car notices the removal of safety equipment required by Federal law. But I do think the custom cars look better without them.
This comes from an old inspection training guide I still have laying around from when I was an inspector: "In the state of South Carolina, if the car was equipped with side marker lights, then the lights are required to be functional and unmodified or the vehicle shall fail inspection and may be pulled over and issued a citation. The markers are required to be Amber in the front and Red in the rear of the vehicle." Although the state no longer has inspections, if the police officer is in a bad mood, or is just being a jerk in general, they can pull you over and harass you over it. Trust me, it's been done to me in the past. -Scott H.
As stated above, it would never even be noticed. Most cops haven't seen a Maverick for years and wouldn't even think about a side marker light when he's checking out the car. If I wanted to do away with mine I wouldn't give it a second thought.
