I don't think there is much hope for trying to save my original gas tank. It has a good sized dent and many pin sized rust holes. I tried having it repaired but it still leaks. I may give the shop one last attempt at trying to make it hold but I'll always have the concern in the back of my head. With that said, can I start to look at a repro mustang tank to fit in the car? I know they are not direct bolt in but since mine is a 70 and a drop in/trunk floor style, which year mustang would work best if I decided to go that route? I'd rather not put a fuel cell in it either.
    thanks in advance

I know how ya feel, but the easiest route would be a fuel cell. Ive heard renu is very expensive .more than fuel cell. That is the route im going.

I coated the inside of my tank 20 years ago and it's held up until now. Now I'm considering a fuel cell, too. Sure would make it easier to install the kind of exhaust I want without the tank hanging down there.
How much did the Renu job cost, if you don't mind?

yes it would be sweet considering the cost of that mustang tank kit is almost what you'd spend on just the maverick fuel level sender

I picked up the 22 gallon Mustang tank. Found another place on evilbay that was selling the same kit for $140. The ad had the dimensions wrong, wide vs. long. The Mustang tank is 4" wider and 7" shorter front-to-rear. When I emptied everything out of the trunk and pulled up the mat to take some measurements I found some rusted areas that need fixed. It's been years since I had everything out of the trunk. So while I'm cutting and welding anyhow I'll modify the space to fit the Mustang tank. Guess that'll be one of my winter projects.
