The rear bumper on mine has different style mounts. I un-bolted the bumper from the brackets and then with a reciprocating saw, cut what I thought was a tube off, which turned out to be a 1.25 inch round bar. It slides into a tube that extends from the frame. It is a little trickier doing the rear bumper because you have to do the cutting and welding on the car, so extra caution is advised. I also ground the ends of the solid bar at a bevel so I could get better penitration on the welds. The valence on the front and rear are both vinyl, so I used a good tin snips to cut them back. With moving the front in 3 inches and the rear in 1.5 inches, everything clears well and the bumpers line up good with the contours in the valance. If you have any more questions, just ask. I also welded the bar on the rear bumper where it slides into the tube, so if there is a slight bump against the bumper, it won't hit the body work hopefully.

Nice job. It sure makes a difference in the overall look of the car I think. It is now 4.5 inches shorter than before.:drive:

@ streetdeacon - the color scheme of your car is similar to what im going for. not sure if i should paint the hood top though, might look odd on 4 door.

    Bumper Tuck

I have a 73 and I tucked the front bumper 2.5". That is enough to make a very noticeable difference without covering the side marker lights. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it.

I have also thought of tucking my bumpers. And only for one reason, after spending hours painting the car to it's almost original color. People will walk around the car and ask? why didn't you paint this thing between the bumpers. I say that's factory! silver! Any help on here?

My front valance was silver also but I painted the grill semi-gloss black to match the headlight trim. So when I did the bumper tuck in the front it just seemed like the right thing to do. I really like the way it turned out. Yopu can check my images and see what you think. There are some pics of before and the after. I would do what ever you like. It is your car. If you want to keep the factory look, then silver is the right color.:drive:

I've kept the stock bumper on my 73. IMO it's the best example of the "safety bumper years" having it closest to scale with the car.
