Pretty new to forum. I recently acquired (a month ago) a 1971 Maverick, I am undertaking a full restoration. Have been lurking here a bit soaking up some information not new to old cars or Fords just pretty new to Mavericks. In addition to all the normal restoration stuff (paint, body, interior and suspension). I will be rewiring the entire car, cutting the shock towers, adding a mid 500 hp Stroked FE, A full tilt C4 and ford 9 inch cut to the stock Maverick length. The goal is to have the look of a stock Maverick (keeping the bench seat and attempting to keep the column shifter). There are two exceptions to the stock appearance. Rims/tires and swelling up the grabber hood to keep factory flavor but add two inches of clearance, not sure how that is going to turn out but I will give it a shot.
Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! Place your care in the Garage section of the site. Do not starts a build threat. The build thread will pass into the archives; possibly never to be seen again.
Thanks for the welcome. I will be starting a build thread and put this in the Garage section. Recently ordered all the sheet metal it needs from Joe at 3PG. That should be here this week and I will report back with pics of those parts. I just purchased the car a month ago. Last week I spent 3 days tracking down the parts needed for a Manual steering conversion and once I got them, I found all the parts I needed in the trunk of the car. So time to slow down and do a proper inventory I guess. z28 I am shooting for the look of your Comet with the TQ thrusts with the exception being, I am planning on using the original tq thrust. I think the D's have better backspacing though.
from a fellow 71 owner in Atlantic Canada! Looking forward to following this build!! How far into the 'Great White North" are you? LOL
Welcome from Clearwater Florida. Looking forward to watching your progress on this. Not too many FE motors get used in Mavs. With regard to a Grabber Cowl Hood ... that has been done before. A few were manufactured, but it was a very limited run. Here are a couple pictures. Look at post 8841 and 8842 .... http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/what...ck-or-comet-today.75605/page-590#post-1076881 Very hard to beat this carbon fiber hood, if Mav Man currently has them in production .... http://www.maverickman.com/StoreCowlHood.html For the price that Grabber Hoods tend to go for, might be close to an even trade (and NO labor ...)
