    If your door tag says made in Canada that would match the X plant in vin, and in my opinion confirms a typo on title.

    First digit is the model year. 0 is 1970, 1 is 71, 2, is 72, and so on up to 77.

    Second digit is the plant it was built at:
    K = Kansas City
    X = St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada
    W = Wayne, Michigan
    F = Dearborn, Michigan

    Third and fourth are the body codes:
    91 = standard 2 door Maverick
    92 = 4 door Maverick
    93 = Grabber
    30 = 4 door Comet
    31 = 2 door Comet

    Fourth number is the engine code:
    U = 170 I6
    T = 200 I6
    L = 250 I6
    F = 302 V8

    The last 6 digits is the number the car was assigned when it was scheduled for production. For example 167193 would be the 67,193rd car scheduled for production by the factory for that model year. 216890 would be the 116,890th car.

    I'm thinking about getting a Marti report , I'm going to call them to see if they can run both vin numbers. Pretty certain this stemmed from an error at some point either reading it wrong or just a typo at dmv. Marti should be able to prove that the wrong vin doesn't actually exist. And the Canada label should support the X in the vin.

    Made in Canada, 5X would be good enough for me.

    Should have same VIN on windshield tag (it's the one that actually counts)as door. VIN screw ups are a fairly regular occurrence.
    Just as likely he can prove it does, or at least did exist. VINs start 100001 at each plant, only digit that is always different is assembly plant.

    As stated in a round-about way.....YES two cars could have the same last 6 digits of a VIN. They could both be Mavericks made at different assembly plants, but could also be two totally different cars/trucks.

    When I was keeping the 428 Fairlane registry, I had over 500 428 Fairlanes & Torinos, never found one with same six digits(no doubt it happened). Those were all Q or R code engines so that part was fairly constant. I did have two or three pairs of consecutive VIN from same plant.

    I am agreeing with Craig here. If you have two identical VINs except for assembly plants the two vehicles would likely entirely different models.
    My Comet was made in Kansas City. The last batch of six numbers after the engine code starts with a 5 meaning it is Mercury (Fords start at zero), but that takes in all Mercury cars made there at the time, several models.

    Going by the VIN in question there, they made a quarter million Ford cars at that plant that year!

    I'm not sure what models beside Maverick/Comet were built at Kansas City(no doubt last of '69 & early '70 Falcons, were also built at Oakville). Till the early March '69 switch over, KC was also building Fairlane, Torino & Ranchero, but no Mercury intermediates. All those came from Lorain that also built all the Torino/Fairlane convertibles. Till the switch, Ford had four plants building Fairlane/Torino.

    Poking back through my regestry records, I have a '69 Cobra from Atlanta & Torino GT from Lorain that missed same consecutive six by one digit, xxx196 & 197. Of course body codes are different(46 Cobra, 42 Torino GT) so in actuality three digits are different. If 196 at Lorain was a Cobra then all the stars would be in alignment. I have several cases of same consecutive from different plants missing by less than 10.
