I like Reno but I'm not a big gambler. I also like Sacramento It doesn't really matter to me. I don't really like the thought of leaving the cars out in the parking lot so far away. The hotel in New Castle Ind was more like the motels around here with parking right outside the rooms.

We plan on making the big trip to Kentucky next year with both cars. The only thing that will stop us is the ridiculous gas prices in that case we would show up for this meet. Although the thought of driving up to Reno with a couple of other SoCal Mavericks sounds great too.

I liked the idea of sort of taking over a smaller motel also, lots of those in Reno too. But you can still get all the cheap breakfasts and great buffetts. C'mon guys, get me out of the heat! I've been imagining jumping into nice snow melt Tahoe for two months. And the Sierras got a big snow pack this year, everything is going to be lush in June.

I had a thought this morning. Oh no! :) Someone was saying in this thread or the other about doing it in the early Spring. The only problem I see is the rain. It seems like it rains every weekend in the spring or when there is a car show. I also remember seeing someone saying to do it at a established show. I know the Good Guys put on two GREAT shows. The All American Get Together in March and the Summer Get Together in June at the Alameda County Fair Grounds in Pleasanton, CA. These two shows usually have 2,000 plus cars show up. I know for a fact there is usually a good chance it rains at the March show. The June show is usually nice and overcast in the morning and then the sun burns off the clouds to a nice day. Just another thought.

    Why not the fall then?

Just wondering why the date seems more or less fixed, when it's probably close to as important as the location. In my case, probably much more so. Very unlikely this thing is gonna fall on a free weekend for me in the summertime.

I just signed up for the Good Guys Autumn Get Together, November 12-13, 2005 in Pleasanton. Pleasanton is 10 miles from me. I missed the Hot Rod show last weekend. I'm not really into hot rods. They seem like a waste of a good old car. ;) I make allowances for souped up Mavericks, because the body isn't usually chopped up.

I've been checking out accomodations in Reno, and starting to warm up to the idea, but those hotels book up a year in advance. If we want something in June next year, we better make reservations soon, or try a less popular time of year. Sacramento will be easier to get accomodations in the Summer.

My dad lives in sacramento and i was already planning on driving the mav down there next summer so either sacramento or reno both work for me, although it would be easier if it was a bit more northernly.

I think the only reason we're shooting for summer is for folks with school age kids. Otherwise the fall would be nice.

We're gonna let the poll run another week so tell non-computer car owners to hop on and vote at least.

Larry, we'll still have our mini-meet out here where it's nice and cool. Heck, you and T.L. can come up and help me fix my ignition!

If it does end up being in Reno maybe we can get on "Reno 911". :)

Regarding rooms in Reno during HAN. Up until Wednesday during that show, the rooms are readily available and extremely cheap. They are around $39 per room at Circus Circus and Sands Regency. If you held the show in Reno on the Friday thru the first Sunday the show starts, you would have no problem at all. I have attended HAN religiously for practically every show since it started. This would also give anyone that wanted to stay thru the week a chance at some really good show and shines, awesome swap meet, nightly cruising, free concerts, crap table! As stated, Lake Tahoe is a short jaunt over the hill. Motel in Tahoe is very cheap on Sunday thru Thursday with weekends still fairly reasonable. Kill two birds with one stone I say!
I have no problem with Sacramento as it is only two hours away from Reno. I just would like to join this show with HAN if at all possible as it would save on transportation.

Goodguys puts on some good shows in Pleasenton. I just came back from the West Coast Nat's (hotrods) and there were about 4000 cars. The Spring and Fall events are open to all American cars and it is more muscle cars then hotrods. March most always gets rain and November can. You can count on 2000+ cars at each of these events. I usually work at these events and I like them, but parking together will be difficult as the grass areas fill up and you cannot hold space for friends or a group..... at least you are not supose to and Goodguys will not do it for you.

The entry cost will be about $65. each and then the hotels are $100 to $200 a night.

    It's a 5 hour drive from L.A. about 2 hours from Sacramento.

Forget about Hot August nights. There is a 2 year wait to get accepted into the show and without that you can't park in any of the hotel parking lots. Hotels are booked a year in advance. I went this year and rented a motor home and parked at a friends house outside of town. Motor home cost the same as a hotel. I towed my car up.

Sacramento will be hot in June/July. Reno will be hot during the day, but cool at night. 20 minutes away is Carson City and prices are lower there.

We can't satisfy everyone, but if we all give a little this could be fun.

Either place works for me. As long as there are hotels, restraunts and drag racing near by, I am happy.

Every year, there is a Division 7 drag race at Sears Point the last week of June or the first week of July. (I can't remember which.) Then there is the Nascar road course race the other weekend. So I guess you know where to find me for that 10 day period. If we could combine this event within the same time frame, I would be in hog heaven. If not, I will still be there.

Who knows, maybe I can get my godchildren to drive the other 72 grabber up. It would make a fun road trip.

It was started by Gary Meadors out of Alamo, CA. It was recently purchased or part of it was purchased by Dodge. That is the reason they're events are sponsred by Dodge and for them to be giving a free Dodge every year. They put on the best events I feel. Gary's son Mark tried running it a few years back and he sucked. They would have their All American show and you would see Honda's & VW's in there. Which to me was a slap in the face, because if I tried to bring my Ford to a import show I sure would be turned away. But they have gotten better.

Another idea I had today was the Fun Ford Weekend in September in Vallejo, CA at the Solano County Fair grounds. It is directly across the street from Six Flags Marine World. This show we would be able to park all together. The only draw back is, I wouldn't recommend staying in Vallejo. Maybe in neighboring Fairfield, Vacaville or even the Napa Valley. I know it would interfer with people with kids and school, but it is just another idea.

For those who are interested in helping out once we determine a location you can PM me directly.

We'll need coordinators for activities, awards, judging, hotels, etc. We can divide it up so no one person is burdened with everything. It doesn't matter if you're near the area or not for most of the jobs.

Let me know your e-mail so I can create a distribution list. That way we can coordinate our efforts.

    Thanks!

    Mike

o.k. reno;to me, is a good place due to the activities available i live north of sacramento but i'd rather drive to reno and summer is a good time for me because nevada can get a bit cold in the fall.keep in mind though, they have the event called hot august nights in reno in august so unless you want to be blended with all kinds of classic cars july might be better.
