I picked up this console recently and was going to use it in my 71 Maverick when I install my T5 five speed. ( I need to restore the console first) . I have not even cleaned it yet. My question is: What is missing in the front vacant area of the console below the warning lights and where can I get console parts? It needs a new chrome trim bezel and what ever is missing in that hole. Do you guys think a 5 speed will work in this console? The console came out of a 76 Granada.
I have the same console in my car, but it came out of a '77 Versailles. I don't think there is anywhere to get parts, you just have to work with what you've got. I don't believe anything goes in that hole except a piece of carpet. I think it's just to hold your goodies. I was thinking about removing the dummy lights, blocking off that hole and putting a small set of gauges in there. I have no idea if the 5-speed will fit, but if it doesn't you can sell the console for around $250.
The Granada was the Ghia version. They are the same. Thanks for the advice. I think removing the warning lights and installing gauges is a good way to go- even fuel gauge there also and then a tach in the dash.
That is a nice console - Mercury Monarch also had a Ghia version - actually my 9 inch disc brake rear came out of a Granada Ghia
Doesn't everything? Even if your 5 speed shifter doesn't land squarely into the center of the existing shifter hole, I would just be prepared to remove all of the wood grained area completely, fit the 5 speed shifter and then cut a new piece out of some other material that is also wood grain - no problems - just solutions
I my consol came out of a Versialles and I am running a T-5, I think it fits and looks pretty good. I removed the warning lights and installed my gauges in their place. I used aluminum for the gauge bezel and the shifter bezel.
That looks really great! I was thinking about selling mine but, I believe I will keep it and use it. Did you upholster the armrest. Mine does not look like yours. Mine has a seam down the middle from the factory but I am going to recover it.
Thanks, Mel, this one came from a versailles and I assume that they all came with the leather covering on the lid. Mav1970, It is the original color, but I did dye it once because it was alittle dirty and dull. Thanks, Chuck
The metal portion of the dash is original, the dash pad was dyed because it was brown and it is cracked. I added the white face gauges and the rear defog.
I didn't notice the seam down the middle of yours at first. Mine looks just like fastfords does. The Versailles was the high end vehicle that's why they had the lids all covered in "leather". I'm going to dye mine black.
