I am looking to buy a set of front bucket seats from a '65 Mustang to replace the thrashed bench seat in my '70 Mav
Does anyone know what I'd have to do to get the seats to fit into the car? I believe the 65 Mustang uses seat risers welded to the floor pans.
Anyone have experience in doing a similar swap?

I think '65s would look weird in a Maverick. I'd suggest later model seats.

In any case, you'll need the Maverick bucket seat tracks, unless you have some serious fabrication skills like some members here.

Agreed - 1969 and up. Not too difficult to tackle, just need to expend time in thought before effort.

    Tommy,

The factory highback buckets that came in the Grabbers and Comet GT are the same frame as 71-73 Mustang.

The pic shows what I used in mine. That is Mustang Coupe upholstery skins, very easy to get ... $200/set. You have to mod the back seat skin by adding a bit of material to the seat bottom.

A lot more detail is in my build thread .... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=55560&page=6

The tough part of all of this is finding Maverick seat tracks. Nothing else works well. The floors in these cars are a bit odd. There are two different styles for pre-catalytic cars. Plenty of info on the board.

I do have some Mustang seat frames that are leftovers that I would sell cheap if you want to go this route.

When I redid the floor pans in my 70 I decided to go with seat risers instead of using the Maverick seat tracks (seat tracks ~ $100.00, seat risers ~ $50.00). They work real well as long as you trim them they are a little tall.

Maverick bucket seat tracks are of NO use in a 1970. The 1970 floor pan is completely different than the basic 1971-1977 floor design.

I used '71-73 Cougar(same as Mustang in shape) in my Sprint. I used '70 Mach 1 seats in the GT. The 70's are more comfortable. Minor floorboard modification(had to expand a couple of holes), but fits fine. I used Comet LDO and Mav seat tracks.

Ran '70 Mustang buckets in my '70 Maverick and I'm still using the Mustang tracks on my current seats. Used some 1" x 1/8" steel stock welded to the inside rails (next to the trans tunnel) to compensate for the uneven floor pan. I know of someone that just used cut off pieces of pipe and long bolts to do the same thing.

You guys seem pretty knowledgable about this so I was wondering if anyone knows what year mustang rear seats fit in a mav if any?? I'm not worried about buckets because I'll go with 69 and up and I don't mind the fabrication for it. However it'd be nice to put a nice back seat in it too so it matches so do any mustang rear seats fit??

71-73 Mustang COUPE (not fastback) rear seats are a bit like ours. The upper cushion is about an inch wider. The lower is much thinner height-wise.

I used coupe seat skins in mine, over my upper cushion frame and tucked the excess. I used a 72-up Mav LDO seat bottom and radically chopped the frame height. The padding on the LDO matches the Mustang skin better than our flat standard back seats.

I would not try it again. A better approach would be to take the skins to someone with some upholstery skills. Have them re-do the ends on the upper. Then have material added to the bottom of the skin for the lower. I would use the 72-up seat bottom, and that requires 70-71 cars to change to the later rear side panels. (72-73 if keeping the same seat belts, later if you want retractable front belts).

    Hey all,

    New to the forum.
Looking to change out the bench seats in a 72 Grabber with buckets.
Would these 1971 mustang Mach 1 seats work?

They have the tracks with them.
I would appreciate any information as to how the swap would go.

    Thank you

Those seats should fit in nicely,

Appreciate the response. With the supplied Mustang tracks or should I use Maverick bucket tracks?
