Is this possible? my 71 has a really beat up bumper and i found a 73 bumper available for purchase. It has the bump gueards but as long as the bracket mounts line up it should work. anyone try this?
I don't see why not...I put a '71 setup on my '73... the fender notch may be the only thing to look a little strange...('73 fenders).
thanks! just wanted to make sure the brackets lined up. figured they would but didnt wanna pull the trigger and be left with a dud...
The forward attaching point for the brackets are in different locations. You will have to move it for the 73 brackets to fit. Early fenders have a notch in the front for bracket clearance that 73 and later don't have. The 73 bumper also uses a different lower valence. You'd be better off finding a nice early bumper IMHO.
That is for the front. The rear bumper on a 73 is dimensionally the same as 70-72, the brackets on the 73 push the bumper out another inch or so and have a filler piece that bolts to the end of the quarter panel to fill the gap. 71 gold mentioned the fender notch so I assumed you were talking about the front, my bad.
No. Just a short metal quarter panel extension that some people seem to think is a piece of a spoiler (which it's not). The '73 uses a urethane or neoprene extension to fill the gap created by the longer mounts.
So, no filling in the holes in order to install the cast pieces. Can't find any cast pieces right now. What are they called?
