Hello all, I'm doing a V8 swap and I was curious as to what the following measurements are for an 85 roller cam V8: ●Distributor shaft's overall length from mounting surface to bottom ●Distance from bottom of shaft to top of gear ●Distance from bottom of the gear to bottom of the shaft I'm trying to avoid putting a computer in for electronics so I'm using PN# 30-2809 from O'Reillys Thanks in advance, Nick
Haha, my bad. Misread that one, but I'm pretty sure it's stock... but maybe it got tossed out when I brought in the new pump :/ So order a new one and get rollin'?
If you have a high volume oil pump (OP) installed on an engine with factory bearing clearances you might want to replace the stock OP driveshaft with a more robust aftermarket unit. Engines with stock bearing clearances and high volume OPs can twist a stock shaft. As Krazy Comet indicated, all 302/5.0L engines use the same size distributor. You do however need a distributor compatible with the roller cam in your engine. The points and condenser distributor you have selected from O' Reilly Auto Parts more than likely has the wrong gear for your roller cam. You might want to consider a stand-alone electronic distributor rather than the points and condenser unit. I asked about the shaft because sometimes guys have problems with the ARP pieces being a little too long and not allowing the distributor to seat. I've used the Ford Racing heavy duty shaft without problem.
Well as a FYI all a high volume pump does in a stock clearance engine is use extra HP, no stockish engine needs 90-100psi... I'm happy seeing 60psi max when hot & 20-25 at idle is fine...
Main and rod bearings will usually be around .0025" and .002" respectively. You get close to .003" and higher a HV pump would help.
I believe I'm at .030 and .020 mains and rods, respectively Is that possible or did I misread? Is that too much? Either way, I got the appropriate sized ones for whichever size it happens to be, and since I went through a performance shop (since they offered a better price for a bundled deal with all the internal components I need) and he ordered the parts since he machined my crank and block for me
