Hey guys! My neighbor has totally lost his 97 Cobra. He's fine but wants to sell the car. The Engine is fine and most of the suspension is ok. How does these parts/motors interchange with our Mavericks? Would it be worth my wild to buy and upgrade my 74 2 door 302 with the Cobra engine? Would this be an expensive undertaking? I really could use some advice. I could get the whole car for about $1000.
I'd say it would be pretty expensive unless you can fab and weld. But, on the Brite side I'd say the drivetrain is worth that. You could buy an Aje front crossmember and use the cobra spindles and brakes. Probably graph the cobra strut towers in to make room in the engine bay while using the cobra struts and possibly rack steering. It would be a lot of work.
Nothing and I mean nothing interchanges, stickin' that 4.6 32v monster in a Mav is about as easy as a 460...In other words the whole underhood, suspension, steering etc must be reengineered...
that's because it needs to be squeezed real tight and forced to go on a diet. lol on the other hand.. try remote starting your Comet when it's 10° outside.

[/QUOTE] All valid points!!! That is why I still own my 1997 Cobra. What a joy to drive! BTW the 1997 Cobra coup weighs in at 3,391#; somewhat lighter than new generation at 3,825#.
