image.jpg I see all these new power steering set ups for mustangs, would one be a direct fit for a maverick?

AFAIK these kits all require some fabrication, none are direct fit, even on Mustang...

Hi! I am the proud owner of a 4 door, 6 cylinder engine (The 250) 1977 ford maverick and when I bought it, the car came with power steering, 5 or 6 years ago, the power steering failed and was impossible to get parts to repair it, at a power steering shop , they said that the only solution was to install a mechanical steering instead of the power steering and they made the conversion, now I feel the steering very hard and wish to install a "new" or rebuilt power steering system back in my maverick, now , if somebody have a schematic of the power steering system, will be of great help and if may post it , just for get a parts list and buy this parts.

    thanks in advance

I have that system on my car , kit #999052. I have it on a V8. It is not an exact fit - some modifications are in order. The steering column has to be shortened, for me it was 2.75in. I had to trim a little metal off the column-to firewall mount plate to keep the rag joint from binding against it. You don't want any binding of steering components. The steering box fits much closer to the firewall than the stock box --- one big advantage of installing on inline setup -- lot's more room to work.
You will also need bracket mounting kit to bolt the pump/reservoir to the engine. If you are serious abt this setup, you should contact mfg. and see what exactly need for this setup to work on your car.
I have a thread on what change I needed to make this setup work - might want to look it over...

    Hi Everett:
Copy that ! We're in the last stages of hooking up hoses to activate the PS setup on Kim's Maverick. Everything else is finished .. Fitting was definitely in order .. it's NOT a bolt in setup . We've discussed this between us before .. I'm about to discover how well the system works .. Despite the difficulties encountered , I'm convinced the Borgeson PS will be an ' Improvement' over the stock setup. We'll see eh ?

I found the hoses to be a little short, "at least the one's they included in my setup". I had one 6in'" longer made/modified w/ their fittings for pressure side, worked out much better. Wish I had made both; I will have another made if for any reason I have to remove it from the steer box.
At this point, I can not say it's a big improvement over the stock PS. I will say, lot's less hose clutter under car and hood, no more squealing pump, no leaky hoses, tighter turning radius.

Once I get more use/miles on the setup will be able to give better opinion on degree of improvement.
Anxious, to see how ur setup works and what alignment spec's you finalize.

    Hi Again:
Everett .. If you need a Hose made lemmeno . I have the setup for making hoses and we do our own here at our plant. If you need a hose crimped .. Just ' Clock' the fitting, mark it, and send it to me and I'll finish it off for you.
No Charge .. ( You probably have someone close by that could help in the 'hose department') but if not .. I'll be glad
to help. Everett.. you just listed five positive items with your Borgeson setup .. That's 'improvements' to me !!I'm
looking forward to Driving the Car without the' fork-lift' steering mechanism under the car. I'll let you know how
this setup works out . In the meantime , keep me in mind . I'll let you know how Kim's PS setup works out when we sit this car back on the deck .
