I did end up ordering one from JEGS but it was a bit more expensive than the one from Rock Auto probably because the one I got was polished aluminum. Also you can't beat that 5% discount that Acornridgeman mentioned.

I ordered the Rock Auto one, I hope it's correct. I forgot to try to get the 5% discout though!

as an update, I purchased the radiator that Rock Auto shows as a V8 replacement. putting it in was complicated by the fact that the rear mounting for the fan shroud is too short. I had to get creative to mount the lower part of the shroud. Then there is the matter of the upper tank being too small, leaving a gap between the shroud. I guess it will do for now but I'm still looking for a better replacement.

That doesn't look right at all. I would contact Rock Auto and see what they have to say. They are good people to work with (at least in my experiences with them).
That shroud is pretty useless like that for pulling air.

I guess I can do that but it's been my experience there is no guarantee with after market fit. they never promised exact fit. It's no like I had other choices, I looked high and low.

That looks like the factory replacement for an A/C equipped car. It’s a 3 core and need the A/C shroud to work with it.

so you are saying there is a shroud that will fit and it's a factory A.C. shroud?

Yes, the pic I attached is of an a/c shroud. You can see that it doesn’t stick out at the mounting points as much.

I'm not sursure I understand. so the upper tank of AN A.C. car radiator is smaller than a non a.c. car? that s where the gap is, where the upper tank used to fill space.

Man, that would be awesome if all it needs is a different shroud.
    Good eye Bob ......... :tiphat:
