Four months later... back at it. Started on the fender to cowl apron and lord it does not want to budge. How many spot welds on these aprons? Now I have the time...
I just seen Frank's post... man I have so many more spot welds to go through. Going to sand the aprons.. http://mmb.maverick.to/resources/cowl-rust-repair.253/
Just about a year with no real progress, finally getting back at it. One more stubborn cowl apron that won’t come off!!!
I just went through the whole cowl repair thing. I ended up making all my own patches and cowl hats. Lotta fun.....
I am seriously about to take it to a shop and be done with cowl. Getting frustrated anyone know any shops in Riverside, CA?
Passenger side cowl apron, I've drilled out all the spot welds, she's not budging. I removed driver's side pretty easily...passenger is just not moving.
You probably don't have all of the spot welds drilled out. Some are very subtle and hard to find. Hit the seams with a wire wheel or some sandpaper and that will "expose" them.
I am at the point where I just miss driving this thing... about to throw her back together and leave body as a survivor and enjoy her.
Funny how we reach that point. I planned to have mine be the first car I finished but I just want to drive it. Think I'll make the Malibu the one that's nice instead.
From what I see it looks like you have missed a few spot welds. Run a wire wheel all over it to remove as much paint as possible. You may not have them drill deep enough.
Boom! Hopefully I've learned enough on spot weld removal that the next phase won't take nearly as long.
