My future Comet might be too old....... hey folks, I'm looking into a 1962 Comet and trying to get comfortible with the idea of this daily driver. Basic info needed is about vehicle registration and essisions requirements in the state of Georgia. Seller told me that all we need is Bill of Sale to transfer ownership. Will I need to pass any emmissions tests to get the registration? It has a 6 cylinder one barrell holly with the vaccum hoses plugged.
Neither emissions nor titles are required for cars older then '86. You simply register the car and drive the wheels off of it. The seller is correct about the bill of sale.
Georgia does not require titles for cars over 14 years of age. You do have to register and tag it. Cars that are 25 model years or older do not require emission testing. Currently, 1982 and older models do not have to emission tested. In case you are looking at tow vehicles, Georgia also does not require vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 8500 lbs. or more to be emission tested.
The rolling title law is no longer in effect. It has permanently stopped at model year 1986. My grandpa tried to get an '86 Crown Vic with no title registered recently, and was told all cars from 1986 and up will have to have a title from now on, period. A buddy of mine has an '84 notchback Mustang, and does not have to have the car emissions tested, he was told that was now permanently '86 and up also..
