Well i am wanting to do somthing new with the Mav. I am thinkin of a 4.6 police intercepter motor out of a 98 crown vic. Can this be done and would it be worth my while?

The motor has all but Trani
    ECU
    Wireing Harnes
    Fuel Pump
    Radiator
The motor is very sound and i have heard it run.

    What do you think?

youll have to put a MII front end in to get it to fit

if you want something different then go that way. DOHC motors aren't cobras necessarily. Mustangs, Mach I's, Bullits, Marauders, Mark VIII's and Aviators came with DOHC mod motors. Some of them had the 2v or 4v heads.

If I were you I'd get a 4.6 DOHC. But as you said, it's what you want to do :)

I've read that late model P71 engines are just regular 4.6s with HO 5.0 MAFs. Anybody else weigh in on this?

The ones I drive, for my Sheriff's office are Police interceptors, sohc, different state of tune (89 octane)

This is no better than a good 302, and a lot of work to put it in. the 4.6 has less torque on the bottom end than the 5.0 .

Now if you had a D.O.H.C., I would love to put that engine in a maverick.

My opinion...I think you can make your Maverick different in many ways other than trying to go with a mod motor...unless you have either the money to have it done or the skills to do it yourself. If the latter is the case, then by all means go for it! But if you're on a limited budget and don't know how to do everything that needs to be done, then build a nice little 302 and make the rest of the car different. Look thru the photo gallery and see what I mean. You'll have a hard time finding two Mavericks alike. Most everybody builds their car different in some way. You can even use ideas from several different cars incorporated into yours and still be different. Or better yet, look thru all the car mags and find ideas there that are doable without spending thousands of dollars. Keep using your imagination like you're doing now...and keep asking questions. :)

The P71 motors are basically the same as the P74(regular Crown Vic), aside from the tune on the computer, and bigger(higher flow) fuel injecters or is it injectors.
Sounds like a cool idea, and anything can be done if you put forth enough effort, good luck with it.:thumbs2:

In my area it's hard to find two Mavericks at all, I don't know how many times I've heard things about how long it's been since someone has seen one of these cars, or how cool it is cause it wasn't a Mustang. One thing I've never heard was "I saw a car just like this............" a Maverick is awesome just by being a Maverick, I think that's part of the fascination with them, and Ray is right, people build their cars diferent in some way or another.

The 4.6 is a neat looking engine but they are extremely wide. As stated, a MII will be a necessity. If you have the know how and means, it would definitely be a cool way to go. I put one in my 57 Ranchwagon.

I have the Tools and the knowledge. my buddies and i want somthing to fool around with.

We got the 4.6 out of a Wrecked Police interceptor for 100 bucks. everything works and the car was totaled from the rear. It has 4 valve heads

We are thinking of putting a cam in it with some other things (intercooled Super Charger) and about 150 shot of Nitrous. We have most of the parts. we need a trani and bell houseing that will hook up to the motor, custom drive shaft, Bigger Throttle Body, Mustang 2 front end, Motor Mounts, exct.....

Its either my maverick. or we do another 4 cylinder Fox body. We are leaning towards the Mav. But that mustang takes less work and parts are dime a dozen.

What do you guys think, I dont know to much about Modular motors but i am willing to learn..... Keep in mind that everything that we have was either from a junk yard and rebuilt or aquired at a swap meet.

Oh by the way there is a 75 maverick in town with a straight body and a blown motor for 200 bucks. I think that would be our canidate for the swap
