    ...news flash...

i took a set of the ...big hole brackets and...drilled the (small bearing) 8" clocked holes in them and they will work also... :yup:
i did these for a guy with a street rod truck with a Ford 8" rear.

I guess I can glean the process from the pics you posted. I was just looking for assembly pics. Kinda one by one as the components went on.
Sorry for sounding stupid. I just want to da it as well and do it right.

    no one asked, but...

    the reason for the shim...
the ...shim...spaces the axle bearing out flush with the cali. bracket..
this way there is no ...endplay...in the axle.
i was thinking about ...making for sale...these shims.
mine were ...200/1000th"...if we check and they fall in 100/1000th" increments maybe we can find a ready made source for them...
    i will research this more...

    ...:yup:...

Thanks Frank. This is great info. Just want to confirm/clarify two things:

    1) the shim keeps there from being a gap between the housing and the axle bearing, due to the thickness of the bracket pulling the axle farther out. Right?

    2) the seal.. maybe I've just never paid attention when I've pulled and replaced axles... what does it look like? I guess it stays in the end of the tube when you pull the axle?

And if you don't mind, can I see a pic (from the end like the ones showing the drum and the installed rotor and caliper) of the axle installed without the rotor?

    1) the...bracket...doesn't pull the ...axle...when the ...axle plate... is bolted on. it leaves a void between it and the bearing. that lets the bearing/axle slide back and forth in the housing/bracket.
i am looking at a ...split shim...to put over the axle between the bearing and the plate. that would be the best place for the shim but to put it there would mean pressing the bearing off and back on.

    2) the ...seal...is in the end of the ...housing...(see pic.)
i will have to pull the rotor and get that pic.of the axle end tomorrow.

I just have one question. '96 Lincoln what? TownCar? Mark VIII? I would hate to buy all the parts and find out that I go the wrong car.

Thanks loads. This setup looks like a great bang for the buck!
