Some interesting ideas in this thread... I've noticed Pinto clusters look very similar to ours. I suspect they tend to be just as basic as Mav/Comet stuff if not worse, but does anybody know if there was ever a Pinto cluster worth looking at? I think it could easily fit. Question is only SHOULD it be done. =) Torino cluster looks like just what I'd want. Too bad there's no easy way to do it. I would be happy if I could just replace the pod on the left with a matching tach, then go aftermarket for the fuel, temp, volts and oil. Already have everything but the fuel gauge in my console already, and the factory fuel gauge on mine is terrible anyway.
I was thinking of tryin something like this . It's from the old Broncos....does anyone know how big they are??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/66-7...001QQitemZ110212286513QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW its just the gauge overlays but was the clearest pic i could find
The Bronco gauge is much bigger then the Maverick. I also tried Fox body 'stang gauges like I said earlier and there is no way they will work either.
!!! Digital, where'd you get that set? do tell, that ahs me interested more than anything. I worked day and night to swap the EIC and cluster from and olds 98 to my 88 royale, ended up with my first experieence crafting wiring harnesses and swapping ECUs to get the data to read right... ./drool
Custom made by...Dakota Digital...i sent them the specs. of both sides of my cluster and what i wanted in each one...scared the hell out of a $700 dollar bill. ...:Handshake...
Dakota? that means i can get them in... MORE COLORS! woot! I have installed a dakota dash cluster in an 89' caprice, very sweet deal... have to give em a call and see what tehy can do, i want a different configuration and since yours was special order, probably means they can do it for us? Just sucks that i'll end up trashing the value of my mav to do it, 55k original miles, but hell, you can't read the damned cluster as is through the foggy lens and crappy dark gauges! Out of curiosity, what specs did you send them? Sizing and a draft of how you wanted it to be laid out? I take it that they set it up to plug the gear driven speedo to digital output? or did you get one of the swap boxes that you plug the speedo into and it sends the signal to the display unit? Oh, and side note, is that the on/ogff switch for your flux capacitor in the middle of your cluster? just curious.... Also, are your digital gauges quick to adjust? or do they skip and stall like the old ones form the 80's? The one in the caprice that i dropped in wouldn't read the tach right, had a delay, as with the speedo, you could slam the brakes and drop 20-30 mph and it would still read the same for a few seconds
i am getting a new bezel ready to paint (thanks Dave B.) and install. when i remove the old one i will take pics. and get you the size. the on/off is to turn the guages on in ...show mode... the ...red light...is my ...shift light... i haven't noticed any of the ...lag time...you mentioned. in the pic. i posted above you can see the ...sensors...that came with the guages. ...:Handshake...
I love the clean look of digital, but do like watching the needle drive up... it feeds my testosterone...lol. i was and still am in a toss up between the stewart warner guages and dakota digital customs... but money is tight due to paint.
