Mine went out once and I got a good one at a wreaking yard, @ 2 months later I thought it went out again but it was the rag joint slipping ,what a relief!

That would have to be scary to be driving along and all of a sudden have your steering go screwy.

About 15 years ago I was driving my dad's '72 Dodge pickup with manual steering and the gear totally failed. Very fortunately I was creeping along in stop and go traffic...I had been on the freeway only minutes before. Basically I could take the steering wheel and go "bzzzzz" and it would spin freely around like a top. :)

A friend was with me and and when I realized what happened I started rolling off the road (luckily the front wheels were turned that direction so I could get outta traffic)..he looks at me and says "what the hell are ya doing?"...then I showed him the wheel spinning and his mouth drops... :)

To remain somewhat on topic...I don't have an extra gear myself...but have you tried rockauto.com? They usually have great prices...also, Granadas and Monarchs through about 1975 would probably use the same gear or a similar one; the steering system was pretty much the same as the Mav/Comet...

just a tip, if you cant find it here or the internet, alot of the newer junkyards can order it from another junkyard. If when you ask for a part they look it up on the computer, they can most likely run a locate on that part, you can also ask them for a print out of the interchange for that part. Most common program is called powerlink (hollander) then i remember another one called orion. gl
