Just go to www.mercadolivre.com.br and then type 'maverick' on the search box you'll see mavs and parts for sale in Brazil it should not be hard for you since portuguese and spanish are similar and you're so close to brazil that shipping may be cheap!

To the U.S., shipping on the valance/spoiler is about $800.00...

It sounds like a new set (reproduction) of Brazilian taillights would cost about $400. Anybody willing to pay that much?

Well, I live in Brasil, and here´s some facts:

The parts are expensive for us here, because the classic cars market is over exposed, and every smartass wants to take advantage of this.

We don´t have many junkyards as we used to, so, reproductions and new-old-stock parts are the new big thing.

There are a lot of bad parts in this package as well.

Problem is, shipping large parts is very expensive. To and from anywhere.

I am restoring a 1929 Phaeton, and I wish I could bring a new body to replace mine. Well, it would cost me 4k dollars, plus almost that in shipping, plus 60% taxes i have to pay to the Brazilian govt. In USD!!
Plus, the customs may aprehend the whole thing, and there goes your money. No refunds.

I dont´see how you would pay a lot of cash in a part, and almost that same amount for shipping and taxes. I wouldn´t.

I´m also finishing a 1978 2.3 OHC Maverick LDO, all original.
For this one I have almost everything I need, except for the rubbers. I found a kit costing like 350.00 USD, all windows, all doors, hood, trunk, etc... right here www.maveco.com.br
Thank god the car has been sitting around since 1980, locked and covered. Payed something like 3k USD.

Brazil is a "closed" country??? Dude, get your facts straight!!! We import and export tons of stuff, you simply have NO idea.
Where did you get the notion that you have to sit on someonelse's lap in order to get something done?? I'm not judging your sex preferences, but if you like doing that, that's your problem and it has zero to do with the way things are done in here.
For your information we do have UPS, FEDEX and a whole bunch of similar services that will get your stuff to your door at just a phone call away...so I have no idea what you meant by that stupid comment.
The fact is that shipping overseas IS expensive and it has nothing to do with the country, but with the shipping companies...try quoting shipping prices from a item inside the U.S. Now, quote the same shipping (same volume, same weight, same distance) inside Brazil...that would be cheaper down here. Now quote shipping from U.S to Brazil at an american UPS station...now quote it from Brazil to U.S...it's just as expensive, and it has nothing to do with customs and anything...
Where did you get the information that customs here are the way you described? Have you ever had trouble with US customs? Gentlemen, don't get me wrong here, I love and respect U.S. a great deal, I lived there and I have a whole bunch of friends, real friends over there, but U.S customs makes (and it's totally justified, I'm not even arguing with that) foreing visitor take their shoes and sometimes clothes off at inspection and have you read me saying anything about it??

Fellows sorry for the rant, but as I said before, I lived in U.S. for a big deal of time and visit U.S. a great number of times and have NEVER been insulted in anyway by you guys, all the contrary actually. And also, I have never met an american that had anything bad to say about my country or my people.

 

Brazilian parts

I'm not exactly sure where all this much animosity came from, but for the majority of readers of this thread, anyone considering making purchases from Brazil, whether from small businesses or individuals, needs to be very careful. As has been stated many times, the quality of reproduction parts varies wildly even if the price doesn't; shipping for large items is outrageously expensive, and customs can sometimes be a problem. I do think that some sellers there play on the fact that getting a refund would be impossible too. Not to say we don't have our share of shady sellers in the U.S., but at least in alot of cases, we have some methods of getting satisfaction on problem deals. For a foreign transaction, you'll be helpless.

I just got some more parts from Brazil and overall I was happy with them, but I operate understanding the risk I'm taking as to price versus quality, and I am fortunate to have a contact in Brazil that I've grown to trust. As someone experienced sending and receiving parts from Brazil, I still recommend using alot of caution when considering such purchases.
